Phillies and C Garrett Stubbs avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract.
It’s a split contract in which the 32-year-old backstop will earn $925,000 in the big leagues and $575,000 in the minors. Stubbs appeared in five games with the Phillies in 2025, going 0-for-1 with a pair of runs scored in his limited action. He’ll continue to function as quality catching depth for the Phillies.

Otto Kemp and Donovan Walton have lockers in the Phillies clubhouse on Monday.
Hard not to assume that Trea Turner is going on the IL with his hamstring strain. Unless someone else is hurt, too, Garrett Stubbs might also be out of a job because of Turner’s injury, as the Phillies probably figure having an extra infielder is more important than a third catcher now.

Phillies recalled C Garrett Stubbs from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Rather than try Justin Crawford or give Johan Rojas or Otto Kemp another shot, the Phillies are just bringing up a third catcher. Stubbs, who served as J.T. Realmuto’s backup from 2022-24 before being replaced by Rafael Marchán this year, hit .265/.352/.402 for Lehigh Valley. The Phillies’ other opening today was filled by waiver claim Tim Mayza.

Phillies optioned C Garrett Stubbs to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Stubbs will begin the 2025 season in the minors, which means Rafael Marchan will be the backup catcher to JT Realmuto to begin the campaign.

Phillies and C Garrett Stubbs avoided arbitration by agreeing to terms on a one-year contract.
It sounded like the Phillies might non-tender Stubbs and go look for a better backup, but they do like his vibes. He still might not be guaranteed the spot in spring training, since longtime prospect Rafael Marchán is out of options. Stubbs, 31, hit .207/.296/.262 in a career-high 187 plate appearances last season.

J.T. Realmuto (knee) is not in the starting lineup against the Rays on Tuesday.
As expected, Realmuto is not available for Tuesday’s contest as he recovers from his knee contusion. He’s not likely to play before the weekend, and Garrett Stubbs will get the nod behind the plate while Realmuto sits.

J.T. Realmuto is no longer expected back from his knee contusion before the weekend.
Realmuto was hopeful of playing during the current three-game series against the Rays, but he’s still dealing with fluid in his knee. Garrett Stubbs is starting in his place tonight.

J.T. Realmuto (knee) is out of the starting lineup for the third straight game.
Realmuto suffered a knee bruise, so he’s not expected to be out long, but the Phillies also have a commanding lead in the NL East, so they can afford to be cautious with their veteran catcher, who already missed time this season with a knee injury. Garrett Stubbs will start in his place and bat ninth against the Rays on Monday.

J.T. Realmuto (knee) is absent from the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Marlins.
No surprise here after Realmuto made an early exit from Friday’s game against his former club with a left knee contusion. It’ll be Garrett Stubbs handling the catching duties on Saturday afternoon. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

J.T. Realmuto is getting a day off on Wednesday against the Astros.
The veteran has started the first two games in the series, so he’ll take a seat and let Garrett Stubbs take over for the final game of the series. Realmuto has experienced a down season amidst injuries in 2024, slashing .265/.321/.418 with 10 home runs and one steal in 78 games. It appears his days as one of the top catchers off the board in fantasy leagues are behind him.
