Giancarlo Stanton (calf) has been cleared to resume running.
Stanton’s glacial progress from a calf strain could have ben measured using a sun dial in recent weeks. The 36-year-old veteran slugger has finally been given the green light to resume running after being limited to hitting and plyometric exercises the past few weeks. He’s on track to make it back to New York’s lineup at some point in mid-June following a rehab assignment.

Giancarlo Stanton (calf) has not been cleared to resume running.
Stanton has been given the green light to hit and go through plyometric exercises, but hasn’t received the go-ahead to resume running, which is the biggest hurdle to making it back to New York’s lineup. The 36-year-old slugger is a couple weeks away at this juncture.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Giancarlo Stanton (calf) underwent an MRI that didn’t show enough progress to begin ramping up baseball activities.
It doesn’t technically qualify as a setback, but Stanton won’t be returning to New York’s lineup as quickly as initially envisioned. The 36-year-old designated hitter remains in a holding pattern until his calf strain shows enough healing that he’s cleared to resume running. His ongoing absence means strikeout-prone prospect Spencer Jones will get a longer opportunity to show something at the highest level than originally thought.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Giancarlo Stanton (calf) will hopefully be cleared to resume running this week.
Stanton will undergo follow-up imaging to determine whether his calf has made enough progress to start ramping up again. The 36-year-old veteran has been hitting recently, but needs to be able to run the bases before he’s cleared for a rehab assignment. He’s been on the shelf recovering from a low-grade calf strain since April 25.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Yankees plan to promote top prospect Spencer Jones from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.
With Jasson Domínguez (shoulder) heading to the injured list, Jones will finally get an opportunity to show the Yankees what he can do at the big league level. The 24-year-old slugger was hitting .258/.366/.592 with 11 homers, 41 RBI, seven stolen bases and a 32 percent strikeout rate in his first 142 plate appearances at Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre. He’s worth a look in deeper mixed leagues for as long as he remains with the Bombers’, though he could be sent right back out once Domínguez or Giancarlo Stanton are ready to return.

Yankees placed DH/OF DH/OF Giancarlo Stanton on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 25, with a right calf strain.
As expected, Stanton hits the injured list after suffering the “mild” strain during Friday’s game against the Astros. It’s feasible this could be a short stint on the list for the 36-year-old slugger, and it’s possible — although far from a guarantee — that he’s back in the New York lineup by the early portion of May.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters late Monday that Giancarlo Stanton (calf) will require a trip to the injured list.
Stanton underwent an MRI earlier on Monday that revealed a low-grade calf strain. He’ll need some additional time off to put the issue to bed, but isn’t expected to require a lengthy absence. The 36-year-old veteran’s departure opens the door for Jasson Domínguez to continue getting opportunities at DH against right-handed pitching.

Giancarlo Stanton (calf) remains out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Rangers.
Stanton remains on the bench for the third consecutive contest with Jasson Domínguez, who is at DH and hitting sixth on Monday night, coming up from Triple-A to face a couple right-handed starters this week. There’s been zero indication the Yankees are going to place Stanton on the injured list, but it feels almost inevitable if he’s not going to be ready to go in a couple days. The 36-year-old will continue receiving treatment and resting as he continues to recover from a right calf issue that cropped up last week.

Yankees recalled OF Jasson Domínguez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
Domínguez was officially called up on Monday afternoon, but Giancarlo Stanton (calf) has not yet been placed on the injured list. That clouds the immediate playing time for Domínguez, but the Yankees do face three righties in their series with the Rangers, which should give him enough short-term playing time. However, Anthony Volpe is reportedly set to rejoin the team on Thursday, and Jose Caballero has been heating up at the plate, so the Yankees may need to decide between Domínguez and Ryan McMahon when Volpe returns. That also assumes Stanton eventually goes on the injured list. There are a lot of moving pieces here.

Multiple outlets report that the Yankees will promote Jasson Dominguez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.
It’s not yet known what the corresponding move will be for the Yankees, but it could be Giancarlo Stanton (calf) being placed on the injured list. It’s also worth noting that Luis Gil was already optioned to Triple-A after Sunday’s loss, so there’s an open spot on the roster. Dominguez has been solid in his 22 games in the minors in 2026 with an .875 OPS, three homers and eight stolen bases over 99 plate appearances to show for it. He forged a serviceable .718 OPS in the majors in 2025, and it’s worth noting that he’s not long removed from being considered one of the best hitting prospects in the sport. Dominguez still has a bright future, but if he’s being called up to cover for Stanton his time in the Bronx might be short-lived.
