Yankees signed RHP Jake Bird to a one-year, $975,000 deal to avoid arbitration.
Bird came over from the Rockies at the deadline and was brutal for the Yankees, allowing seven runs (six earned) on four hits in two innings. He has shown the ability to miss bats during his years in Colorado, so he remains an intriguing arm in the middle relief for the Yankees.

Yankees optioned RHP Jake Bird to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Bird has not gotten off the ground in his Yankees career after being acquired at the deadline. He has allowed seven runs (six earned) in two innings across three games, including allowing two huge home runs. The Yankees will keep him in the nest for a bit and hope to help him fly better over the final month of the season. Mark Leiter Jr. is expected to be activated off the IL tonight.

Jake Bird allowed four runs in his first appearance with the Yankees against the Marlins on Friday.
The Yankees led 9-4 in the seventh inning before turning the gave over to Bird, who was making his first appearance for the Yankees since being acquired before Thursday’s trade deadline. Bird allowed a grand slam to Kyle Stowers, which got the Marlins back in the game. David Bednar and Camilo Doval followed Bird with each entering the ballgame with the lead and being charged with a blown save. The Yankees’ new bullpen acquisitions all fell flat in their debuts.

Yankees acquired RHP Jake Bird from the Rockies for INF Roc Riggio and LHP Ben Shields.
The 29-year-old right-hander has registered a 4.73 ERA and 62/23 K/BB ratio across 53 1/3 innings with the Rockies this season. He’ll add another talented right-handed arm to an already stacked Yankees’ bullpen. With Devin Williams, Luke Weaver and David Bednar working in high-leverage situations, look for Bird to see most of his work in the middle innings.

Jack Curry of YES Network reports that the Yankees have acquired Jake Bird in a trade with the Rockies.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports Roc Riggio and Ben Shields will head to Colorado in the deal. Bird gives the Yankees some middle-inning help as a 29-year-old right-hander who has posted a 4.73 ERA over 53 1/3 innings with a 62/23 K/BB ratio to go with it. He likely won’t get save chances, so there’s not much relevance here in any fantasy formats.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that the Rangers, among other teams, are interested in Phil Maton.
Maton is the favorite to be the closer in St. Louis with Ryan Helsley now with the Mets. However, Maton is also a free agent at the end of this season, so it seems likely he will be traded today. The Rangers have expressed an interest in him, in addition to Hunter Harvey of the Royals and Jake Bird of the Rockies.

Seth Halvorsen took a blown save and a loss by giving up a two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th against the Nationals on Thursday.
Trying to close out a one-run lead, Halvorsen gave up a two-out homer to James Wood. The first run, courtesy of the automatic runner, was unearned. Halvorsen was pitching for the second straight day and third time in four days, so he’ll be down Friday. Tyler Kinley or Jake Bird could get a save chance then.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand writes that Jake Bird will be an attractive trade target at this year’s deadline.
The 29-year-old reliever has a 2.23 ERA with 54 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings out of the bullpen this year. He also has three additional years of club control, so he could net the Rockies a strong return. However, he has three additional years of control, so they may just hold onto him.

Rockies optioned RHP Zach Agnos to Triple-A Albuquerque.
This qualifies as a surprise. There haven’t been a ton of save chances for the Rockies this season, but Agnos has become a key component of Colorado’s high-leverage mix during his rookie campaign, notching four saves across 20 appearances. The 24-year-old was hit extremely hard during his last two appearances against the division-rival Giants, allowing seven runs over 1 1/3 innings. His sudden demotion seemingly opens the door for Seth Halvorsen, and possibly even lights-out setup specialist Jake Bird, to handle the bulk of the save opportunities.

Rockies recalled RHP Jake Bird from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Bird was just sent down Monday, but he’s back because of Tyler Kinley’s injury. He has a 4.95 ERA in 36 1/3 innings for the Rockies this season.
