Pirates acquired OF Jake Mangum from the Rays in a three-team deal involving the Astros.
Mangum was solid in 2025 for Tampa Bay in his first chance to be a regular, and he hit .296/.330/.368 with 27 stolen bases in his 118 games. The former Mississippi State star offers very little power, and his fantasy value is limited because of it. Still, he could be a helper in the average and steals category in 2026.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #53
Chandler Rome, Ken Rosenthal and Stephen Nesbitt of The Athletic report that the Astros, Pirates and Rays have agreed to a three-team, six-player deal.
The framework of the finalized deal is the same that was reported earlier on Friday. Mike Burrows will be heading from the Pirates to the Astros, Brandon Lowe, Jake Mangum and Mason Montgomery will go from the Rays to the Pirates while Jacob Melton and Anderson Brito will go from the Astros to the Rays. The Astros have been inquiring on Burrows for a while now and was an obvious target of theirs to upgrade their starting rotation. The 26-year-old right-hander posted a 3.94 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and a 97/31 K/BB ratio over 96 innings in 23 appearances (19 starts) for the Pirates in 2025.
  • TB 2nd Baseman #8
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Chandler Rome report that the Rays, Pirates and Astros are in serious discussions on a three-team trade that includes Brandon Lowe, Mike Burrows and Jacob Melton among others.
Alex Stumpf of MLB.com and Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com report that the deal is done, pending medicals. The Astros would be receiving Burrows from the Pirates in the proposed deal while Lowe would head to the Pirates along with Jake Mangum and Mason Montgomery. Melton and Anderson Brito would move from the Astros to the Rays in the massive swap. From the Pirates’ perspective, they will add one of the best power-hitting second basemen in the game. While there’s more work to be done, it’s a nice step forward to legitimize their lineup.

Jake Mangum is on the bench for Sunday’s showdown against the Guardians.
Mangum takes a seat with Everson Pereira getting an opportunity to face Cleveland rookie southpaw Parker Messick in this one. He’s getting a break after making six consecutive starts between center and right field.
  • TB Right Fielder #15
Josh Lowe is not in the Rays’ starting lineup for Thursday’s battle against the Guardians.
The 27-year-old outfielder will take a seat with left-hander Logan Allen toeing the slab for the Guardians. Jake Mangum will start in his place in right field and will bat sixth for the Rays on Thursday evening in Tampa Bay.

Jake Mangum went 3-for-4 with a stolen base on Monday, leading the Rays to a 10-2 blowout victory over the Mariners.
There’s no shortage of fantasy standouts in Tampa Bay’s loaded lineup, but Mangum continues to serve as an unexpected spark plug. The unheralded 29-year-old rookie recorded his seventh three-hit performance of the season while also picking up his 21st stolen base. He doesn’t offer enough over-the-fence pop to qualify as a game-changing fantasy contributor, but he should remain a strong batting average and steals source for years to come.

Jake Mangum had a nice night at the plate in Tuesday’s lopsided loss to the Yankees, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, RBI and a stolen base.
Mangum singled off of Carlos Rodon in the third inning, swiped second base and scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Chandler Simpson. The 29-year-old outfielder then drove in a run with an RBI single off of Yerry De Los Santos in the eighth that pulled the Rays to within nine runs. Mangum is now slashing .277/.313/.343 with two homers, 32 RBI and 19 stolen bases (in 22 attempts) through his first 317 plate appearances on the season.
  • TB Right Fielder #15
Josh Lowe (oblique) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Yankees.
It’s a positive sign that Lowe hasn’t required a trip to the injured list, but he’ll sit out his third straight contest on Tuesday night due to an ongoing right oblique issue. It’ll be Jake Mangum taking over in right field with Everson Pereira in center field against his former team on Tuesday night.
  • TB Right Fielder #15
Josh Lowe (oblique) is absent from the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Giants.
Lowe is expected to avoid a trip to the injured list, but he’ll sit out Sunday’s contest at Oracle Park after being scratched earlier this weekend due to right oblique tightness. It’ll be Jake Mangum moving over to right field with Everson Pereira taking over in center field. The 27-year-old outfielder is presumably day-to-day heading into Tuesday’s pivotal series opener against the Yankees.

Jake Mangum went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in a loss to the Dodgers on Sunday.
Mangum also robbed Freddie Freeman of a home run in the ninth inning. The defense and speed are the reasons that Mangum remains in the lineup. Coming into today, he was hitting .210/.256/.284 in 24 games since July 1st with seven runs scored and four steals. He doesn’t do enough to be rostered in most fantasy leagues and could be replaced in the lineup if the Rays fall out of playoff contention.
