Adrian Del Castillo left Sunday’s game against the Padres with a dislocated left finger.
Del Castillo suffered the injury while behind the plate. The 26-year-old was unable to continue and James McCann took over. Del Castillo may need a trip to the injured list, but his status should be updated in the coming days.

Diamondbacks placed C Gabriel Moreno on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 11, with a left oblique strain.
It turns out Moreno was dealing with an oblique strain when the Diamondbacks said he was dealing with lower back soreness. It’s a bit unclear how much time the 26-year-old backstop is going to miss, but oblique issues can be tricky matters. It’ll be James McCann and Adrian Del Castillo handling the catching duties in his absence.

Gabriel Moreno (back) remains out of the Diamondbacks’ starting lineup for Sunday’s showdown against the Phillies.
The expectation had been that Moreno would be placed on the injured list on Sunday, and while that’s still possible, it has not happened yet. James McCann will start in his place behind the dish and will bat seventh for the Snakes on Sunday against Phillies’ right-hander Andrew Painter.

Gabriel Moreno is likely to go on the injured list, D-backs manager Torey Lovulllo said.
No exact word on the results of the MRI on Moreno’s back, but Lovullo said it’s a muscular issue and that it probably won’t result in a lengthy absence. James McCann will be the starting catcher in his place, with Adrian Del Castillo perhaps serving as his backup. Alternatively, the D-backs could add another catcher, probably Aramis Garcia. They don’t have any minor league position players currently on the 40-man roster as callup possibilities.

Corbin Carroll is not in the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Mets.
It will be Jorge Barrosa in right field and batting ninth for the Diamondbacks as they get their superstar a rest day on Thursday. Gabriel Moreno is also sitting this one out for Arizona, leaving Adrian Del Castillo and Jose Fernandez as the 4-5 hitters against Nolan McLean.

Gabriel Moreno is not in the lineup for Saturday’s bout versus the Dodgers.
Moreno will take a break Saturday with James McMann getting the start behind the plate to catch Eduardo Rodriguez. Jordan Lawlar is also out of the lineup for Saturday’s contest with Jorge Barrosa starting in left.

    Diamondbacks re-signed C James McCann to a one-year, $2.75 million contract.
McCann can earn another $500,000 in incentives. The 35-year-old will be the backup backstop to Gabriel Moreno in 2026.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Diamondbacks have agreed to a one-year, $2.75 million contract to bring back veteran catcher James McCann.
The 35-year-old lefty masher will also have the ability to earn an additional $500,000 in incentives. The D’Backs don’t currently have a spot open on their 40-man roster, so look for them to officially announce the signing on Friday evening after the non-tender deadline.

James McCann drove in four runs with a homer and a single in the Diamondbacks’ 6-4 defeat of the Twins on Sunday.
McCann’s homer was his fourth in 109 plate appearances this season. After failing to command the salary he thought he deserved as a free agent and spending the first 2 1/2 months of the season in the minors, he’s been a perfectly fine backup for the Diamondbacks. He should be some team’s No. 2 catcher on Opening Day next year.

James McCann went 3-for-4 and scored a pair of runs as the Diamondbacks dispatched of the visiting Red Sox 5-1 on Saturday evening.
McCann singled off of Lucas Giolito in the second inning and scored on an error by Red Sox’ shortstop Trevor Story. He also led off the fourth inning with a single and came all the way around to score on a two-out RBI single off the bat of Jake McCarthy. The 35-year-old backstop has done a nice job in his limited action this season, slashing .256/.333/.400 with three homers and nine RBI in his first 102 plate appearances.
