Cubs placed LHP Jason Waddell on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 13, due to a non-baseball-related medical issue.
The 27-year-old has appeared in three games for the Cubs this season, allowing one earned run in 1 2/3 innings. Waddell hitting the DL makes room for the arrival of Jake Fox from Triple-A.

Waddell, 28, will be making his major league debut. He will serve out of the bullpen as the lefty specialist, but wasn’t off to an impressive start in Iowa. He had a 5.51 ERA in 16.2 innings, striking out 12 and walking seven. He’s been worse against lefties, although his K/BB ratio is 6/2 against lefties. He’s not going to stick all year long.

The Cubs will option RHP Kevin Hart to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, reports the Arlington Daily Herald.
The Cubs want Hart to get work in the minors before a likely return to start for Chicago on July 19 at Washington, according to the report. Bruce Miles speculates that reliever Jeff Stephens could be summoned from Iowa to replace Hart on the active roster. Miles also reports that the Cubs will activate Jason Waddell from the DL and option him to Iowa in a procedural move.
