According to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times, the Angels have fired manager Joe Maddon.
ESPN’s Buster Olney reported just a few minutes ago that the Angels were discussing a possible managerial change, and now the decision is official. Phil Nevin, who had been serving as the team’s third base coach, will take over interim skipper duties. Maddon was with the Halos for two-plus years and will finish his run with a record of 157-172. That includes a current 12-game losing streak that has sunk Anaheim to an 8 1/2 game deficit behind the Astros in the American League West standings.

ESPN’s Buster Olney reports that the Angels “have discussed making a change at manager.”
This news comes amid a brutal 12-game losing streak that has dropped the Angels to a record of 27-29. It’s unclear if a decision is imminent, but Joe Maddon could become the second MLB manager to lose his job in a one-week span after the Phillies canned Joe Girardi this past Friday.

Ray Montgomery has been named the new bench coach for the Angels.
Montgomery had been working in the Angels’ front office as their vice president of amateur scouting but will now step into a coaching role alongside manager Joe Maddon. The 52-year-old played in the major leagues for parts of three seasons -- all with the Astros -- between 1996-1998.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Angels plan to hire Phil Nevin as their third base coach.
Nevin was fired as the Yankees third base coach last month. Rosenthal also notes that the team has been talking to Wayne Kirby -- who spent the previous two seasons with the Padres -- about their first base coach vacancy.

Robert Murray of FanSided reports that the Angels have spoken to Phil Nevin about a coaching position.
Nevin was fired as third base coach by the Yankees last month around the same time that the Angels let Brian Butterfield go from the same position. Murray says that Nevin is one of many named under consideration by the Halos.

The Angels have parted ways with third base coach Brian Butterfield.
Butterfield has been the third base coach for the past two seasons, following Joe Maddon to the Angels. He’s a respected coach with a long and successful career and should have plenty of teams knocking on his door.

Angels interim pitching coach Matt Wise is away from the team after testing positive for COVID-19.
Wise was already filling in for suspended pitching coach Mickey Callaway, so the Angels will have to shift some responsibilities around to fill in for Wise while he’s away from the team. The good news, is that other staff members who had contact with Wise have all tested negative.

Matt Wise will function as the Angels’ interim pitching coach.
Dom Chiti will replace Wise as bullpen coach for the time being, as well. Pitching coach Mickey Callaway is currently under investigation after reportedly sending lewd messages to five women who work in sports media. It would be a surprise if this change doesn’t end up being permanent.

Bruce Hines has been hired as the Angels’ new first base coach and outfield instructor.
He will be replacing Jesus Feliciano, who left the team for personal reasons back in late July and did not return. Hines, 63, has served as a coach in the minors and majors for more than three decades.

Perry Minasian has been hired as the Angels’ new general manager, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Minasian quickly emerged as the favorite this week as the Angels began narrowing down their long list of initial candidates with a final round of interviews. He spent the last three seasons serving as an assistant to Braves president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos, and before that he worked for nine years in the Blue Jays’ front office and scouting department. Minasian takes command of an Angels club that is not afraid to spend big money but has recently failed to achieve much on-field success. Despite the presence of Mike Trout, their best regular-season record during former general manager Billy Eppler’s five-year tenure was 80-82.
