Griffin was the International League leader in home runs and RBI last year, but he has just six homers and 16 RBI in 192 at-bats this season, which is why the Jays bypassed him and called up Chad Mottola when Alex Rios went on the DL last week. Maybe Griffin will rebound and earn a September callup, but it’s unlikely that he’s in Toronto’s plans for 2007 and beyond.

Blue Jays purchased the contract of outfielder John-Ford Griffin from Triple-A Syracuse.

Griffin looked like a potential regular a few years ago, but he just hasn’t made enough contract against more advanced pitching. He finished this year hitting .252/.330/.488 with 26 homers and 144 strikeouts in 484 at-bats for Syracuse. The Jays can use him as a pinch-hitter for their infielders now that Adam Lind is playing regularly.
