Astros re-signed 1B Jon Singleton to a minor league contract.
The deal is now official. Singelton winds up back with the Astros after being designated for assignment back in late July. The 33-year-old will continue to function as emergency first base depth for Houston back at Triple-A Sugar Land.

Astros sent 1B Jon Singleton outright to Triple-A Sugar Land.
The 33-year-old slugger had been designated for assignment earlier in the week, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra depth for the Astros at the Triple-A level. Singleton went just 1-for-9 (.111) in his limited action with the Astros.

Astros designated 1B Jon Singleton for assignment.
Singleton’s latest stint with Houston lasted only one week as he went 1-for-9 across three games. The 33-year-old first baseman figures to pass through waivers unclaimed. He’ll likely wind up electing free agency to see what other opportunities may arise on the open market.

Astros selected the contract of 1B Jon Singleton from Triple-A Sugar Land.
Singleton rejoins Houston’s infield mix with Isaac Paredes requiring a trip to the injured list with a hamstring strain. The 33-year-old first baseman got into a career-high 119 contests last year for the Astros, but has spent the entire 2025 campaign at the Triple-A level. He can be safely ignored in most fantasy formats.

MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart reports Isaac Paredes is likely to land on the injured list with a right hamstring strain.
McTaggart adds that both Shay Whitcomb and Jon Singleton are coming up from Triple-A Sugar Land after Paredes left Saturday’s game and will head back to Houston to undergo an MRI this weekend. It’s not assured that both will be added to the active roster, but it seems likely, which could mean that Cooper Hummel will be the odd-man out. Paredes was hurt running out a grounder in Saturday’s game in Seattle. Whitcomb figures to see time filling in for him, at least until Jeremy Peña returns and frees up Mauricio Dubón to play third.

Astros signed 1B Jon Singleton to a minor league contract.
The 33-year-old slugger opted out of his minor league deal with the Mets last week and chose to return to the Astros for a third tour with the organization. Singleton was hitting .213/.353/.448 with 12 homers and 42 RBI in 224 plate appearances at Triple-A Syracuse.

Mets signed 1B Jon Singleton to a minor league contract.
The Mets also signed Niko Goodrum to a minor league deal Wednesday, so Triple-A Syracuse gets a glow up. Singleton was released by the Astros before the start of the season, and isn’t likely to be a player that gets much playing time with the Mets unless Pete Alonso was to miss time. Even still there’s no guarantee.

    Astros released 1B Jon Singleton.
Singleton hit just .174/.239/.195 this spring. With Zach Dezenzo hitting well and Christian Walker healed, there is just no real need for Singleton in Houston. He could still re-sign with them on a minor league deal, but he figures to test the free agent market first.

Christian Walker was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup due to a sore oblique.
Walker will take a seat and Jon Singleton will get the start at first base. The Astros aren’t going to take any risks with their big free-agent addition, and this all could be precautionary, but obviously this is a situation to monitor for those who have used a pick or plan on using a selection on Walker this spring — especially when you consider that Walker missed time in 2024 with an oblique strain.
  • HOU Left Fielder #44
Yordan Alvarez is having an MRI on his right knee after waking up this morning “pretty sore,” according to manager Joe Espada.
Alvarez’s X-rays didn’t reveal a fracture, but he is dealing with some inflammation following Sunday’s awkward slide. Maybe he’ll make it back, but we wouldn’t want to have to count on him in fantasy leagues this week. Jason Heyward and Jon Singleton could be in line for extra playing time while Alvarez is out.
