Cubs signed RHP Jonathan de Marte to a minor league contract.
The 26-year-old de Marte had a nice showing for the Can-Am League last year, including a 2.23 ERA with five saves and a 42/15 K/BB ratio over 40 1/3 innings with the Quebec Capitales. He’s also the closer for the Israeli team that qualified for the Olympics. It’s an interesting story, as he’s never pitched in affiliate ball.
