Josiah Gray went three innings without allowing a run against the Yankees on Saturday.
Gray surrendered a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. It’s his second spring start of the season for the 28-year-old, and was in the low 90s with his four-seam heater. Gray seems like to be a part of the rotation for the Nationals to open 2026, but there’s not enough upside to suggest he’s worthy of rostering to start the campaign.

Josiah Gray went 1 2/3 innings while allowing one run against the Astros on Monday.
Gray was able to whiff three in his spring debut while allowing two hits and no walks. The right-hander missed all of 2025 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and he’s one of the few Washington hurlers who offers some potential intrigue. Fantasy managers probably shouldn’t take the risk just yet, but he’s certainly worth monitoring.

Nationals and RHP Josiah Gray avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.35 million contract.
The 27-year-old hurler missed the entire 2025 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He made it back to make a few minor league rehab starts at the end of the season though and will be able to participate in his normal offseason routine this winter. He should be a full go when pitchers and catchers report in February. Gray will make the same $1.35 million that he took home while rehabbing in 2025.

Josiah Gray (elbow) will not return this season.
Gray will not make it back to the big leagues before the regular season wraps up this weekend, but he’s on track to be a full-go without any restrictions heading into spring training. The 27-year-old missed the entire 2025 campaign recovering from last year’s Tommy John surgery. He’ll get a head start on his offseason throwing program after making it through three minor league rehab starts.

Josiah Gray (elbow) threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball in Friday’s minor league rehab start at Triple-A Rochester.
The 27-year-old hurler threw 45 pitches in the ballgame. Nationals’ acting manager Miguel Cairo told reporters on Friday that the team will make a decision over the weekend whether or not to give Gray one start at the big league level next week before the season concludes. With Mitchell Parker being shifted to the bullpen, it sounds like the door is open for Gray to get one start with the Nationals and finish the season on a high note.

Josiah Gray (elbow) made his first minor league rehab start at High-A Wilmington on Sunday, hurling 1 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball.
In his first live game action since undergoing Tommy John surgery, Gray did a nice job, allowing just a pair of walks while striking out one over 1 1/3 innings. He threw 34 pitches in the ballgame, 18 of them for strikes. He’s going to require at least another couple of starts before returning to the Nationals, though they may want to get him one appearance at the big league level before the season concludes to finish the year on a high note.

Josiah Gray, who is making his way back from Tommy John, is set to make his first rehab start Sunday.
He’s expected to throw two innings for High-A Wilmington. It’s unclear if there’s a chance for a late-season cameo for Gray this year, but he is expected to be a part of the Nationals’ 2026 rotation.

Josiah Gray (elbow) faced hitters on Tuesday in a live batting practice session.
Gray has been out since last July recovering from Tommy John surgery. There’s a chance he could make it back to Washington before the regular season concludes, but his odds of making any sort of fantasy impact are extremely slim.

Nationals placed RHP Josiah Gray on the 60-day injured list.
Gray underwent Tommy John surgery in late July, so he might have a tough time making it back before the end of this season. The Nationals tendered him over the winter anyway, and they’ll have him under control for two more years beyond this one.

Josiah Gray (elbow) has progressed to flat-ground throwing.
Gray is making steady progress in his lengthy recovery from last year’s Tommy John surgery that also included an internal brace procedure. The 27-year-old righty figures to rejoin Washington’s starting rotation mix at some point in the second half of the year.
