Rangers reassigned SS Nick Ahmed, C Tucker Barnhart, RHP David Buchanan, RHP JT Chargois, RHP Adrian Houser, RHP Joe Barlow, RHP Matt Festa, INF Alan Trejo, C Chad Wallach and OF Alejandro Osuna to minor league camp.
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News adds that Ahmed and Barnhart are still weighing the possibility of opting out of their minor league deals to hit free agency. There are no real surprises here among the latest batch of cuts, but Osuna stands out since he made a really strong impression this spring to put himself in position as an option for the Rangers outfield mix at some point later this year.

Rangers signed RHP JT Chargois to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Chargois, who played his college ball in the Lone Star state at Rice University, heads to Rangers camp as extra organizational relief depth after compiling a strong 2.23 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 30/13 K/BB ratio across 36 1/3 innings (36 appearances) last year between the Marlins and Mariners. The 34-year-old veteran reliever has become a bit more brittle in his 30’s, but he remains an effective middle relief option when healthy. He’ll compete in the Cactus League for a spot in the Rangers’ season-opening bullpen.

    Mariners non-tendered RHP JT Chargois.
This one doesn’t come as a big surprise as the 33-year-old right-hander had already been designated for assignment earlier in the week. He pitched well during his time in the big leagues in 2024 though, compiling a 2.23 ERA, .102 WHIP and a 30/13 K/BB ratio over 36 1/3 frames between the M’s and the Marlins. He won’t be out of work for long.

Mariners designated RHP JT Chargois for assignment.
Chargois loses his roster spot to make room for infielder Austin Shenton. The 33-year-old righty made just 36 relief appearances last year between the Marlins and Mariners, but finished with a strong 2.23 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 30/13 K/BB ratio across 36 1/3 innings of work. He shouldn’t have too much trouble latching on elsewhere as extra relief depth.

Mariners acquired RHP JT Chargois from the Marlins for RHP Will Schomberg.
The deal is now official. Chargois heads to Seattle to bolster their middle relief mix after being limited to just 15 appearances this season due to neck issues. The 33-year-old right-hander has made 223 career appearances in the big leagues dating back to 2016.

SportsGrid’s Craig Mish reports the Mariners are acquiring right-hander JT Chargois from the Marlins.
Chargois has been limited to just 15 appearances this season due to injury and will presumably operate in middle relief for Seattle.

Marlins activated RHP JT Chargois from the 60-day injured list.
Chargois had been out since the spring with neck spasms. He’s one of the many relievers in the Marlins pen who are candidates to be traded before the deadline, but there is at least a slim chance he’ll stay with the club and wind up earning some saves over the final two months.

Marlins transferred RHP JT Chargois (neck) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
It creates space on the 40-man roster for Tristan Gray. Chargois is currently out with a neck injury, and he has no timetable for a return at this point. The earliest he can be activated is now May 27.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #84
Marlins placed RHP JT Chargois on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to March 25, with neck spasms.
Chargois has been battling a lingering neck issue throughout spring training and remains without a timetable to return.

Marlins and RHP JT Chargois avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.285 million deal
The 33-year-old had a bit of a down year by his own standards in his first year in Miami. After not posting an ERA over 3.00 since 2019, Chargois had a 3.61 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 35/18 K/BB ratio in 41 1/3 innings. While he’s never been a big strikeout arm, the Marlins are hoping he can get back to suppressing hard contact and hits as he had the previous two seasons.
