The Red Sox are moving Justin Gonzales up to Double-A Portland.

Gonzales is widely regarded as Boston’s No. 2 prospect now that the other contenders for that spot were all sent to Baltimore for Adley Rutschman. The 19-year-old hit .271/.391/.463 with 17 homers in 422 plate appearances for High-A Greenville.

19-year-old Justin Gonzales laced a 117.3-mph single against the Blue Jays on Monday.

That’s some rare territory right there. Of the 673 players to take a major league at-bat last season, only 13 hit a ball at least 117.3 mph. Gonzales looks the part, having checked in at 6-foot-6 and 277 pounds in camp this spring. Gonzales hit .281/.363/.390 in a 2025 season spent mostly in Low-A ball. He needs to work at getting the ball into the air, but he offers exciting power potential and hasn’t struck out much so far (16% of the time last year).
