The Boston Globe’s Tim Healey and Alex Speier report the Red Sox have had trade discussions for infielders Ketel Marte, Corey Seager, Isaac Paredes and Brendan Donovan.
The big surprise here is Seager since his name hasn’t come up at all in trade discussions this offseason. It’s abundantly clear that the Red Sox, who have a surplus of young big-league caliber pitching prospects to deal, are planning to upgrade at either second or third base this offseason since they’ve been active in trade discussions for multiple targets while also pursuing free agents Alex Bregman, Bo Bichette and Eugenio Suárez. Get your popcorn ready.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal suggests that the “Diamondbacks might need the market to play out and for clubs to become more desperate” before trading Ketel Marte.
Rosenthal highlighted some potential concerns with “clubhouse fit and the acquisition cost” that are preventing teams from making aggressive offers for Marte right now. As a result, the Diamondbacks might be wise to wait and let free agency play out a little more before trying to make a move. That being said, Marte will gain full no-trade protection after the tenth day of the 2026 season since he will have accrued 10 years of service and five consecutive with the same club. That might make it harder for Arizona to trade him.

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reports the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Tigers, Mariners, Rays and Pirates are among teams interested in trading for Ketel Marte.
Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen said last month that trading Marte is unlikely to occur this offseason, but teams are always open to listening to offers. The 32-year-old franchise cornerstone recorded a robust .893 OPS with 28 round-trippers across 126 games. He remains an elite second baseman for fantasy purposes regardless of his landing spot and will be an early-round selection in all drafts next spring.

MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reported that the Diamondbacks are “actively listening” to trade proposals for 2B Ketel Marte.
Morosi reports that it’s “at least a 50/50 chance that Ketel Marte is moved” this offseason. As of now, nothing is close, but multiple teams - like the Phillies and Blue Jays - have checked in on Marte’s availability. Neither the Phillies nor the Blue Jays are on Marte’s limited no-trade clause, so either team could acquire him without Marte’s approval. This will be one of the key storylines to watch this offseason.

Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen told MLB Network that trading Ketel Marte is unlikely to happen this offseason.
Hazen’s remarks at the annual general manager’s meetings directly contradict reporting earlier this week by USA TODAY’S Bob Nightengale that suggested the club is motivated to move Marte this offseason. The 32-year-old was an All-Star and Silver Slugger at second base this past season when he posted an .893 OPS with 28 homers in 126 games. He remains an early-round selection in all fantasy drafts heading into next season.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports that the Diamondbacks “are definitely motivated in moving” Ketel Marte.
Arizona will certainly ask for a lot in a trade package, but Marte has $71 million on his contract through the 2030 season, and the Diamondbacks are reportedly looking to move him and build around younger players. Additionally, if the Diamondbacks don’t trade the 32-year-old Marte by mid-April, he “will have 10-and-5 rights and a full no-trade provision,” which makes it even more likely that Arizona will try to pull off a move this offseason.

Shohei Ohtani was named the 2025 National League Silver Slugger Award winner at DH on Thursday night.
The American League winners will be announced on Friday night. Here is the complete list of winners for the senior circuit: Hunter Goodman (C), Pete Alonso (1B), Ketel Marte (2B), Manny Machado (3B), Geraldo Perdomo (SS), Juan Soto (OF), Corbin Carroll (OF), Kyle Tucker (OF), Ohtani (DH) and Alec Burleson (UTIL). Ohtani has claimed the award in back-to-back seasons since joining the Dodgers and four times overall in his career. Soto takes home the honor in his Mets debut, giving him six in eight seasons. At this rate, he might need an entire room just to display them all by the time his 15-year megadeal is through. Alonso, Perdomo, Goodman, Carroll and Burleson are all first-time winners.

Ketel Marte launched his 28th homer to lead off Sunday’s game against the Padres.
Marte ends another extremely productive campaign at .283/.376/.517 in 126 games. That .893 OPS in seventh in the majors and tops among infielders, even including first basemen. The next best marks for middle infielders were .852 from Bobby Witt Jr. and .851 from Marte’s double play partner, Geraldo Perdomo.

Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte are not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Padres.
It’s a well-earned day off for both Carroll and Marte after the injury-ravaged Diamondbacks were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Friday night with a loss to the Padres. The tandem figure to be ready to roll for Sunday’s series finale against San Diego, but it wouldn’t be a complete shock to see them get the entire weekend off to rest and recover after a long season.

Ketel Marte went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored on Sunday in a lopsided victory over the Phillies.
Marte led off the home half of the first inning with a double and scored the game’s first run on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Corbin Carroll. He then contributed a two-run single during the Diamondbacks’ five-run second inning and rode home on Corbin Carroll’s three-run blast. Marte is enjoying another terrific season, slashing .280/.376/.507 with 26 homers, 70 RBI and four stolen bases in 535 plate appearances.
