Kyle Freeland allowed two earned runs and five hits over 4 1/3 innings while striking out two in Friday’s loss to the Marlins.
Freeland walked two batters in the first inning but escaped unharmed. It would be the only two batters he walked on the evening. In the bottom of the second, however, three-straight hits surrendered to Xavier Edwards, Owen Caissie, and Javier Sanoja, plated two runs for the Marlins in the frame to give them the early 2-0 lead. Freeland again found himself in trouble in the third inning when he put runners on the corners with one out via a hit and a hit batter, but back-to-back groundballs ended that threat. He was pulled after allowing a groundball out to Jakob Marsee to start the fifth inning to, putting an end to his first start of the season. Freeland did his part to limit runners after a shaky first two innings. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday in Toronto.

Kyle Freeland blanked the Royals over four innings in his final spring training start Saturday.
Freeland scattered four hits with one walk and a pair of strikeouts. He ends his Cactus League season with a 1.00 ERA, which is impressive even when acknowledging the lack of stakes. It’s not impressive enough to make him worthy of fantasy consideration, but good for Freeland.

Kyle Freeland looked sharp during Saturday’s Cactus League tuneup against the Cubs, allowing just one hit over three scoreless innings.
The 32-year-old southpaw uncharacteristically racked up four strikeouts on the afternoon and didn’t walk a batter. The only baserunner against him came on a two-out double by Jefferson Rojas in his final inning of work. Freeland peppered the strike zone in this one, throwing 27 of his 34 pitches for strikes. His four strikeout victims were Matt Shaw, Dylan Carlson, Kevin Alcantara and Jonathan Long. For the spring, he holds a stellar 1.80 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a 6/3 K/BB ratio over five innings in his two starts. He’s still not a recommended option for fantasy purposes.

Kyle Freeland gave up one run and walked three in two innings Monday against the White Sox.
Freeland had a bit of an easier matchup today after facing Team USA in his spring debut last week. He’s not quite as far along as the rest of the Rockies’ pitchers after dealing with back spasms, but he’s in line to be ready for Opening Day.

Kyle Freeland gave up one run in an inning against Team USA in his spring debut Wednesday.
Freeland is a little behind because of back spasms, but aside from a big miss to Aaron Judge that was rightfully rocketed 453 feet out to left field, he looked good today. He should still have time to stretch out to at least five innings before the season starts.

Kyle Freeland (back) will make a start against Team USA on Wednesday.
Freeland has been dealing with back spasms, but he’s feeling well enough to get the ball against the vaunted USA lineup in an exhibition bout. Freeland should be ready to go for the regular season, but offers not even a morsel of fantasy upside in his left arm at this stage of his career.

Kyle Freeland allowed three runs with four strikeouts over six innings in a loss against the Giants on Saturday.
After a scoreless first inning, Freeland surrendered a three-run blast to Casey Schmitt in the second. He settled in to toss four more scoreless frames, ending his day with four strikeouts over six innings. The 32-year-old left-hander ends the season with a 4.98 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and a 124/38 K/BB ratio across 162 2/3 innings.

Kyle Freeland was outstanding in Sunday afternoon’s victory over the Angels, allowing just one run on five hits over his six frames.
The 32-year-old southpaw piled up seven strikeouts in the ballgame while allowing just one base on balls. The only damage done against him came on an RBI single off the bat of Jo Adell in the opening inning. After that, Freeland blanked them for the remainder of his afternoon. He generated seven swings and misses on 85 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 26 percent. He’ll try to finish the season strong as he carries a 5.00 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and a 120/37 K/BB ratio (156 2/3 innings) into Saturday’s battle against the Giants in San Francisco.

Kyle Freeland allowed six runs with one strikeout over 5 2/3 innings in a loss against the Marlins on Tuesday.
Freeland tossed two scoreless innings before giving up three runs in the third, including two on a double by Jakob Marsee. Five more hits in the sixth would bring three more runs in to score for Miami before Freeland was chased with two outs at 73 pitches. He struck out just one. The 32-year-old left-hander will take a 5.14 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and a 113/36 K/BB ratio across 150 2/3 innings into a start against the Angels in Colorado on Sunday.

Kyle Freeland yielded four runs — one earned — in 5 2/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Dodgers.
All four runs Freeland allowed in the second were unearned after Kyle Karros committed an error to start the frame. The loss leaves Freeland 4-15 with a 4.97 ERA, and he’s now tied with Mitchell Parker and teammate Antonio Senzatela for the most losses in the leagues. He’ll make his next start at home against the Marlins.
