Angels optioned 2B Christian Moore and INF/OF Kyren Paris to Triple-A Salt Lake.
The move paves a relatively unobstructed path for veteran Adam Frazier to open the year as the Angels’ starting second baseman. Technically, Oswald Peraza, Nick Madrigal and Vaughn Grissom remain in the mix but they’ve struggled this spring and make more sense in bench roles. Los Angeles took Moore with the eighth-overall pick back in 2024, one spot before Pittsburgh grabbed baseball’s current top prospect Konnor Griffin. The 23-year-old second baseman has hit just .198/.284/.370 with seven homers in 53 games at the highest level and has struggled to emerge as an everyday option.

Kyren Paris went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI as the Angels rallied to beat the Cubs 5-4 in Cactus League play on Thursday.
Paris delivered the equalizer in the fifth inning, plating Gustavo Campero with an RBI single off of Jaxon Wiggins that made it a 4-4 ballgame. He then scored the go-ahead run on Chris Taylor’s RBI double. After bursting onto the scene in 2025, Paris is going to need a very strong showing in Cactus League play in order to secure a bench spot on the Halos’ Opening Day roster.

Angels optioned INF/OF Kyren Paris to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Paris was up with Kevin Newman being placed on paternity leave, and will now head back down to the minors. The 23-year-old is hitting just .188/.340/.363 in 23 games at Triple-A.
  • LAA Shortstop #9
Zach Neto said he jammed his right shoulder on a stolen base attempt Tuesday and will undergo tests on Wednesday.
Neto stayed in initially after getting hurt, but he left the game after airmailing a throw afterwards. He’s optimistic he’ll be OK, but he wants tests for reassurance. If Neto needs an IL stint, Kyren Paris could take over as the Angels’ primary shortstop.
  • LAA Shortstop #19
Angels recalled INF/OF Kyren Paris from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Paris joins the Angels’ bench mix ahead of Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox with veteran infielder Kyle Newman away from the club on paternity leave. The versatile 23-year-old was demoted to the minors last month after a prolonged slump at the plate.

Angels optioned INF/OF Kyren Paris to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Paris set the fantasy landscape ablaze when he homered five times in 10 games to open the year. The 23-year-old, who overhauled his swing during the offseason, went into an extended tailspin afterwards, hitting .129 (13-for-101) with one homer and three steals in 33 games following a two-homer performance on April 9. He’ll attempt to turn things around in the minors.

Matthew Lugo is absent from the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Athletics.
It’ll be Kyren Paris making just his second start in the last six games on Tuesday night in his place. Lugo has been an unexpected revelation this season, hitting .310 (9-for-29) with three homers in 10 games since coming up earlier this month from Triple-A Salt Lake. It’s an extremely small sample size, and he’s going to cool off at some point, but there’s some intrigue here for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues and AL-only formats.

Matthew Lugo is in center field and batting eighth on Wednesday against the Padres.
Lugo gets the nod over a slumping Kyren Paris after coming off the bench to crush a two-run homer during Tuesday’s showdown at Petco Park. The unheralded 24-year-old prospect is hitting .300 (3-for-10) with two homers and four RBI in five games since being called up last Friday from Triple-A Salt Lake. He’s an intriguing talent with a real chance to carve out a role in Los Angeles, especially with Paris mired in an 11-for-83 (.133) slump since blasting two homers back on April 10.

Matthew Lugo hit a two-run homer in his lone at-bat off the bench Tuesday against the Padres.
Lugo hit for Kyren Paris in the seventh and then stayed in to play center afterwards. If the Angels actually trust him in center, then there wouldn’t be any harm in giving him a look as a starter for a spell. After all, Paris is currently seven for his last 70 at the plate.

Kyren Paris hit a two-run homer in Wednesday’s win for the Angels over the Blue Jays.
That’s the first homer for Paris since April 9 when he went deep twice against Tampa Bay and caused everyone to lose all sense of rational thought. The 23-year-old did also single and walk to improve his on-base percentage to .311, while the homer bumps his slugging mark to .378. There is long-term upside in Paris with flashes that suggest he can be a fantasy option. Fantasy managers should still absolutely looking elsewhere for options up the middle.
