Leo Jiménez is day-to-day with a left hand contusion.
The positive news here is that X-rays came back negative after Jiménez was removed from Wednesday afternoon’s contest against the Cardinals. It sounds like he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list.
  • MIA 2nd Baseman #6
Otto Lopez was scratched from the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Reds.
No word yet on the reason for the move. Leo Jiménez takes over at shortstop in his place to face Reds starter Brady Singer.
  • MIA Shortstop #49
Marlins acquired INF Leo Jiménez from the Blue Jays for INF Dub Gleed and $250,000 in international bonus pool money.
The Marlins designated Garrett Acton for assignment in a corresponding move to clear a spot on the team’s active roster. Jiménez, 24, is out of minor league options so he’ll get an immediate opportunity to show what he can do in a reserve role at the big league level for the Fish.
  • MIA Shortstop #49
Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports that the Marlins have agreed to acquire infielder Leo Jiménez from the Blue Jays for minor league infielder Dub Gleed and $250,000 in international bonus pool money.
The Blue Jays had designated Jiménez for assignment earlier in the week, so they were willing to flip him for anything tangible that they could get at this stage. Jiménez is out of minor league options, so the Marlins will have to make a 26-man roster move to clear a spot for him before the trade becomes official.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #52
Blue Jays optioned RHP Chase Lee to Triple-A Buffalo; designated RHP Angel Bastardo and INF Leo Jiménez for assignment.
Lee opens the year on the doorstep of the big leagues after being acquired from the Tigers in an offseason trade. Bastardo and Jiménez lose their spots on Toronto’s 40-man roster but are decent bets to pass through waivers unclaimed and remain with the organization.
  • TOR Infield #49
Leo Jiménez struck out both times up Tuesday, leaving him 1-for-6 to open the spring.
Jiménez’s chances of making the Jays seemed a lot better during that brief window after Anthony Santander went down and before Jesús Sánchez was acquired. He’s out of options and the closest thing the Jays would have to a utility infielder on the bench, but they can probably do without him, since Davis Schneider can play second, Addison Barger can play third and Ernie Clement can slide all around the infield. If the Jays put him Jiménez waivers, one imagines someone will take a shot. He’s just 24, and he has a .404 OBP in 94 career games in Triple-A. As a major leaguer, he’s come in at .207/.303/.332 in 242 plate appearances to date.
  • TOR Shortstop #49
Blue Jays optioned INF Leo Jiménez to Triple-A Buffalo.
Jiménez heads back to the minors to make room for starting catcher Alejandro Kirk to return from the concussion injured list prior to Sunday’s game against the Royals.
  • TOR 2nd Baseman #0
Blue Jays placed 2B Andrés Giménez on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 5, with a left ankle sprain.
Giménez winds up landing on the injured list after aggravating a left ankle issue during Friday’s contest against the Angels. Th 26-year-old second baseman figures to miss at least a couple weeks. It’ll be some combination of Leo Jiménez and Davis Schneider filling in at the keystone.
  • TOR Shortstop #11
Bo Bichette (knee) is not in the starting lineup for Thursday’s bout against the Yankees.
Bichette will miss his fourth straight game while battling right knee discomfort. Andres Gimenez is also out of the lineup, so the Blue Jays will deploy a double-play partnership of Ernie Clement at shortstop and Leo Jimenez at second.
  • TOR Shortstop #49
Blue Jays recalled SS Leo Jiménez from Triple-A Buffalo.
With Bo Bichette nursing a knee injury, the Blue Jays needed some extra help up the middle. Jiménez will immediately enter the starting lineup at shortstop and bat ninth on Tuesday. The 24-year-old was hitting .271/.417/.333 in 15 games at Triple-A with 10 runs scored, 11 strikeouts, and nine walks. He remains off the fantasy radar in all leagues until we know if Bichette will avoid the IL.
