Lou Collier cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Collier, who was designated for assignment last week, should rejoin the Red Sox after Pawtucket’s season ends.

Lou Collier drove in two more runs for Triple-A Pawtucket last night. He leads the International League with 32 RBI.
Collier currently has a 1048 OPS for Pawtucket. He’d be a quality bench player, but he won’t be an option in Boston unless an injury strikes or the team is able to go to 11 pitchers at some point.

Free agent Lou Collier went 4-for-4 with two homers yesterday for Mexicali of the Mexican Pacific League.
Collier was one of the best players in the International League over the first half of 2003, but he cooled considerably. He’d still make a decent utility player in the majors, but he’s not all that likely to get an opportunity next season.

Phillies signed infielder-outfielder Lou Collier to a minor league contract.
Kind of an odd choice by Collier. The 30-year-old would be a decent option as a 25th man, but he doesn’t figure to be considered for a bench spot by the Phillies.

Phillies purchased the contract of infielder-outfielder Lou Collier from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Collier figures to be used strictly as a pinch-hitter while Pat Burrell is out.

Red Sox designated infielder-outfielder Lou Collier for assignment.
The move clears a spot for Jeff Suppan on the roster. Releasing Todd Jones probably would have been a better move, but the Red Sox have decided to go back to 12 pitchers.

Red Sox recalled infielder-outfielder Lou Collier from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Collier probably would have been called up when Shea Hillenbrand was trade, but since he was injured at the time, Freddy Sanchez was recalled instead. The utilityman batting .293 with 12 homers and 61 RBI for Pawtucket. He shouldn’t have any fantasy value as Boston’s 25th man.
