Padres agreed to terms with C Luis Campusano on a one-year contract.
He’ll get $900,000, according to The Athletic’s Dennis Lin. It sure seems to us like Campusano is a player who would have benefitted from accepting the non-tender and taking his chances elsewhere. After all, the Padres gave him all of 21 major league plate appearances last season and wouldn’t put him behind the plate even once. Campusano’s glove is a major issue, but he did hit .336/.441/.595 in 105 games for Triple-A El Paso last season. At least he’s out of options now, so if the Padres decide against carrying him, he’ll go on waivers and find out if someone else wants him.

Elias Díaz (oblique) is not on the roster for the NL Wild Card Series against the Cubs.
Even with Freddy Fermin entrenched as the starter, the Padres will roster both Luis Campusano and Martín Maldonado as backups for this series. It remains to be seen who will catch Game 2.

Elias Díaz (oblique) is out of the lineup for Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Diamondbacks.
San Diego could turn to Luis Campusano on their postseason roster if Díaz isn’t ready to go in a couple days. It’ll presumably be Freddy Fermin handling the catching duties in his absence. The 34-year-old veteran suffered an oblique injury during Saturday’s win over Arizona.

Luis Campusano went 3-for-5 with two homers for Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.
It was his second straight two-homer game. We were hoping Campusano would get thrown into one of the Padres’ deadline deals, but it didn’t happen. Since his defense just hasn’t come along and he’s already arbitration eligible, he’s not all that attractive as trade bait at the moment. However, he has hit .321/.431/.617 with 21 homers and a 63/53 K/BB in 348 plate appearances in Triple-A this season.

Padres optioned C Luis Campusano to Triple-A El Paso.
Campusano was summoned for Sunday’s first-half finale with Gavin Sheets away from the club on paternity leave. The 26-year-old backstop has done some serious damage at the Triple-A level this season, but it hasn’t carried over into the big leagues during limited opportunities.

Luis Campusano went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI for Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.
Campusano is now up to 11 home runs and 38 RBI on the season while hitting .316 with a 1.035 OPS at Triple-A. Meanwhile, Elias Diaz is slashing .206/.278/.313 in 177 MLB plate appearances with a 26 percent strikeout rate and a -2 framing grade behind the plate.

Padres optioned C Luis Campusano to Triple-A El Paso.
Campusano heads back to the minors with San Diego needing to bring up some extra outfield depth while Jackson Merrill is on the concussion injured list. The 26-year-old backstop has made some serious noise this season at the Triple-A level, but he’s gone hitless in 18 at-bats over nine games in the big leagues.

Padres recalled C Luis Campusano from Triple-A El Paso.
Campusano has gone hitless in six at-bats over three games in the majors this season, but he’s put up some ridiculous numbers at the Triple-A level. He’ll get another look with San Diego while veteran Jason Heyward (oblique) is on the injured list.
