Jacob Lopez earned the win on Sunday against the Padres, firing 4 2/3 innings of one-run ball out of the bullpen.
Lopez struck out three, walked one, and allowed six hits. Luis Medina served as an opener since Lopez entered the start with an ERA over 6. The plan worked as it was the first time this season he pitched multiple innings and allowed fewer than two runs. Consider him an avoid for fantasy purposes with his next appearance at home against the Yankees.

Luis Medina, who is returning from Tommy John surgery, threw a scoreless fourth inning against the Reds on Monday.
Medina was a starter before getting hurt in July 2024, but the A’s are going to treat him as a middle reliever for now. That’d probably be different if they could send him down and stretch him out, but he’s out of options and likely would be claimed off waivers. Medina topped out at 99.2 mph today. He’s too wild to go into a big role right away, but he might wind up earning some saves in a weak pen. It’ll be interesting to see whether the A’s are willing to commit to him as a one-inning guy or if they’d prefer to use him for multiple innings with the idea of moving him into the rotation later this year.

Athletics avoided arbitration with RHP Luis Medina by agreeing to a one-year contract.
No word on how much Medina will get in 2026. The 25-year-old right-hander missed all of 2025 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, but should be an option for the A’s rotation at some point this spring/summer.

Luis Medina (elbow) is on track to be healthy for spring training.
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay told reporters earlier this month that Medina will have some limitations from a workload standpoint next season but he’s expected to be a full-go at the outset of camp after missing all of last season recovering from Tommy John surgery. His long-term role remains up in the air as his high-octane fastball velocity might be more suited for a relief role after a couple inconsistent seasons as a traditional starter.

Athletics placed RHP Luis Medina on the 60-day injured list.
Medina was officially put on the 60-day injured list earlier on Monday to make room for infielder Luis Urías on the A’s 40-man roster. The 25-year-old will miss the entire 2025 season recovering from Tommy John surgery that he underwent last August.

Luis Medina underwent successful Tommy John surgery on Wednesday.
No internal brace, apparently, so Medina will likely miss all of 2025. Medina had a 5.18 ERA in eight starts this season before being shut down. He’ll finish this year on the 60-day IL, and the A’s will have to decide this winter whether it’ll be worth keeping him on the 40-man over the winter.

Athletics transferred RHP Luis Medina to the 60-day injured list.
This is nothing more than a procedural move to free up a spot on the club’s 40-man roster for the return of Darell Hernaiz on Friday night. Medina is set to undergo Tommy John surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2024 season — and most of 2025 — while recovering.

Luis Medina will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery.
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay confirmed Thursday that Medina will undergo season-ending surgery. It’s a bit unclear whether it’ll wind up being an internal brace procedure or a full Tommy John ligament replacement. There should be an update on his status after the surgery. Given the timing, he figures to be out until at least the outset of the 2026 season.

Athletics manager Mark Kotsay told reporters last weekend that Luis Medina (elbow) is expected to miss “significant” time with a right elbow sprain.
Kotsay didn’t rule out the possibility that Medina will require surgery after landing on the injured list last week with a UCL injury. There should be some additional clarity on his status following the All-Star break, but fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back this season, even in a best-case scenario. It’s an unfortunate development since he was throwing extremely hard, and was looking like a potential deep-league contributor, even though his surface stats weren’t all that pretty.

Athletics placed RHP Luis Medina on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow sprain.
Not good. No word yet on how long Medina will wind up sidelined, but he could be facing an extended absence. The 25-year-old righty was lit up for six runs over five innings on Thursday against the Red Sox in his final first-half outing.
