Athletics optioned RHP Mason Barnett to Triple-A Las Vegas
Barnett had a 6.85 ERA in his five-start audition last year with the Athletics, but also had a 6.13 ERA in 119 innings at Triple-A as well.

Mason Barnett surrendered two runs and five hits in three innings Saturday against the Cubs.
Barnett is one of the longer shots to claim the fifth spot in the Athletics’ rotation after posting a 6.85 ERA in his five-start audition last year. He had just a 19% CSW in the 64-pitch outing today, and that he’s walked five in 7 1/3 innings so far this spring isn’t helping his argument.

Mason Barnett gave up three runs in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Royals on Friday.
Barnett gave up all three runs on a homer by Jonathan India. The 24-year-old walked two and struck out three. In his limited action with the A’s, Barnett finished with a 6.85 ERA, but there were some moments that suggest he has a chance to be a decent backend starter. Not enough of them to suggest he’s someone to consider drafting in 2026, but some decent moments nonetheless.

Mason Barnett lasted 3 2/3 innings and allowed three runs and seven hits Wednesday in his start against the Red Sox.
Barnett didn’t have much luck in this one. He gave up just five hard-hit balls, none of them topping 102 mph, and one of the biggest hits against him was a flyball down the right field line that Nick Kurtz and Zack Gelof ran into each other trying to get to, resulting in a double. He also struck out four and walked one. Barnett has an 8.53 ERA after three starts, but he’d seem to deserve a little better with his 13/6 K/BB and one homer allowed in 12 2/3 innings. He’ll likely face the Red Sox again in Fenway next week.

Mason Barnett struck out eight over five innings of four-run baseball to get a win over the Angels on Friday.
Barnett allowed all four runs in the first inning, including two free passes with the bases loaded. He ended up walking five in the start, but he did settle down nicely after that frame to get his first MLB victory. The 24-year-old is essentially auditioning for a chance to compete for a rotation spot next year, and his next start likely comes next week against the Red Sox. Look elsewhere.

Mason Barnett was roughed up by the Rangers in his major-league debut on Saturday, surrendering five runs over four innings.
One of the better pitching prospects in the Athletics’ system, Barnett was welcomed rudely by the division-rival Rangers, coughing up a whopping eight hits, including a fifth-inning solo blast to Wyatt Langford. He notched one strikeout and didn’t hand out a free pass. It’s unclear whether he’ll draw another start, but he’s lined up to face the Angels on Friday night. He’s not a recommended fantasy option at this early stage of his career.

Athletics’ manager Mark Kotsay confirmed that Mason Barnett will start for the A’s on Saturday against the Rangers.
It will be the Major League debut for the 24-year-old hurler. Barnett struggled to a 6.13 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and a 124/65 K/BB ratio over 119 innings in 25 appearances (23 starts) at Triple-A Las Vegas. He’s not a recommended streaming option against the Rangers on Saturday.

Athletics selected the contract of RHP Mason Barnett from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Barnett receives his first promotion to the majors with lefty Jacob Lopez finally hitting the injured list. The 24-year-old prospect has been hit hard this season in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League and can be ignored in most fantasy formats for the moment.
  • ATH Outfield
Athletics acquired OF Jared Dickey, RHP Will Klein, and RHP Mason Barnett from Kansas City for RHP Lucas Erceg.
Dickey was an 11th-round pick in last year’s draft and is already in High-A slashing .269/.360/.424 with nine home runs and eight steals in 81 games. He has a sub-20 percent strikeout rate and a 10 percent walk rate, so he brings a decent plate approach from the left side of the plate. He’s still a ways from the majors, so it’s unclear what his long-term upside is.

Athletics acquired RHP Mason Barnett, RHP Will Klein, and OF Jared Dickey from Kansas City for RHP Lucas Erceg.
Barnett is a 23-year-old righty who is the 4th-ranked prospect in Kansas City’s system, according to MLB Pipeline. He has a 4.91 ERA and 3.76 FIP in 91 2/3 innings across 18 starts at Double-A this season. His best pitch is a hard slider which can get up to 12 inches of glove-side break and he also has a mid-90s four-seam fastball with above-average ride. He has been pitching better of late with a 1.64 ERA across four starts in July. A 2022 third-round pick, Barnett could develop into a back-end of the rotation arm for the Athletics.
