    Lazar gets the nod to join Philadelphia’s bullpen mix with setup specialist Brad Keller hitting the shelf with a forearm injury. The 27-year-old will be making his season debut when he gets into a game after making 36 appearances for the Phillies last year, finishing with a serviceable 4.79 ERA across 41 1/3 innings of work.

    Phillies activated RHP Maz Lazar from the 60-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

    Lazar suffered an oblique strain pitching for Team Israel in the WBC and had been on the IL since the start of the season, though he’s been well enough to post a 2.70 ERA in 11 relief appearances. With his rehab assignment ending, he’s now back on the 40-man, but he’ll continue pitching for Lehigh Valley until needed.

    Lazar has his first ever save with the scoreless inning. The 25-year-old has a chance to help the Philadelphia bullpen, but it’s impossible — and foolish — to project him getting more save chances. It took Philadelphia using five relievers before him to get this one.

    It’s the first callup this year for Lazar, who had a 3.12 ERA and a 20/6 K/BB in 17 1/3 innings out of the pen for Lehigh Valley, He had a 4.61 ERA over 13 2/3 innings in his major league debut for the Phillies last year.
