Marlins placed INF Maximo Acosta on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to March 22, with a left oblique strain.
Acosta is probably going to wind up back at Triple-A Jacksonville once he concludes a rehab assignment. The 23-year-old suffered the injury back in mid-March during pregame warmups.
  • MIA Center Fielder #87
Jakob Marsee is patrolling center field and leading off Saturday’s Grapefruit League opener against the Mets.
Marsee hasn’t generated a ton of fantasy hype this offseason despite hitting .292/.363/.478 with five homers and 14 steals in a 55-game big-league debut late last year. The 24-year-old speedster doesn’t strike out a ton and boasts the on-base ability required to occupy the leadoff spot long-term. He’s come off the board right around 150th overall in NFBC drafts since the start of February, which makes him a top-30 range fantasy outfielder with 15-homer, 30-steal upside. Here is the full lineup: Marsee (CF), Agustín Ramírez (C), Christopher Morel (1B), Griffin Conine (RF), Connor Norby (3B), Heriberto Hernández (LF), Javier Sanoja (2B), Maximo Acosta (SS) and Ryan Ignoffo (DH).
  • MIA 2nd Baseman #24
Marlins optioned INF Maximo Acosta to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Acosta has filled in at several infield spots over the past few weeks, batting .204 (11-for-54) with three homers, five RBI and one steal in 19 contests. The 22-year-old rookie heads back to the minors with Connor Norby and Graham Pauley coming off the injured list.
  • MIA Shortstop #9
Xavier Edwards (wrist) remains out of the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Tigers.
Edwards will sit again to rest his sore right wrist after being scratched from Saturday’s lineup. Rookie Maximo Acosta will handle second base in his absence. The 26-year-old middle infielder is considered day-to-day heading into Tuesday’s series opener against the Rockies at Coors Field.
  • MIA Shortstop #9
Xavier Edwards was scratched from Saturday’s lineup with right wrist discomfort.
It sounds like a precautionary decision with rookie Maximo Acosta taking over at second base for Saturday’s showdown against the Tigers. There should be an update regarding his status following the contest.
  • MIA Shortstop #9
Xavier Edwards is on the bench for the second straight contest on Saturday against the Phillies.
Otto Lopez has been bumped up to the leadoff spot with rookie Maximo Acosta at the keystone over Edwards for the second straight game. The 26-year-old speedster has endured a disappointing campaign overall with just 24 stolen bases across 123 games. However, he’s been mired in an extended tailspin of later, batting .129 (8-for-62) with zero homers and one steal over his last 15 games.
  • MIA Shortstop #9
Xavier Edwards is absent from the Marlins’ starting lineup for Friday evening’s soiree against the Phillies.
There haven’t been any rumblings of illness or injury surrounding the speedy 26-year-old infielder, so it appears to be just a routine night off. Maximo Acosta will start in his place at second base and will bat seventh for the Marlins against Phillies’ tough southpaw Cristopher Sanchez.
  • MIA 2nd Baseman #24
Marlins recalled INF Maximo Acosta from Triple-A Jacksonville.
Acosta, 22, was sent down last week when Connor Norby returned from the IL, but now he gets another shot with Norby injured again. He was 4-for-24 with three homers the first time around. He’s hit .229/.315/.377 with 13 homers in 444 plate appearances in Triple-A.
  • MIA 2nd Baseman #24
Marlins optioned INF Maximo Acosta to Triple-A Jacksonville.
The 22-year-old infielder hit just .167 (4-for-24) with three homers, three RBI and a 6/2 K/BB ratio in his limited action with the Marlins. He’ll return to an everyday role at the Triple-A level until he’s needed once more.
  • MIA 2nd Baseman #24
The Marlins have decided to send down Maximo Acosta to make room for the returning Connor Norby, sources told El Extrabase.
The move should be official later today. Acosta has three homers in nine big-league games, and it seemed like there could have been room for him to stick around and continue to see time all over the infield, especially with Otto Lopez struggling of late.
