Michael Chavis is signing with the Chunichi Dragons in the Nippon Professional Baseball League.
Chavis was in Triple-A with the Dodgers and slashing .291/.350/.547 in 63 games with 13 home runs. In 357 career MLB games, he has a .238/.283/.401 slash line with 42 career home runs.

Dodgers optioned INF/OF Hyeseong Kim and RHP Bobby Miller to Triple-A Oklahoma City; reassigned C/OF Dalton Rushing, OF Eddie Rosario, INF Michael Chavis, RHP Giovanny Gallegos and INF David Bote to minor league camp.
Kim will not travel with the club to Japan for next week’s season-opening Tokyo Series against the Cubs. There were rumblings earlier this spring that the 26-year-old might require some time in the minors to continue working on his swing mechanics. The decision leaves Tommy Edman as Los Angeles’ primary second baseman to open the regular season with veterans Miguel Rojas, Chris Taylor and Kiké Hernandez in bench roles. It doesn’t come as a surprise to see Miller heading to Triple-A after he was hit in the face by a line drive earlier this spring and will need some extra time to ramp-up. Rushing is the highest profile prospect included in the Dodgers’ latest batch of cuts. He figures to reach the big leagues at some point this season and will make an impact in deeper mixed leagues.

Dodgers signed INF Michael Chavis to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 29-year-old split his 2024 season between the Mariners’ and White Sox’ organizations where he slashed a combined .257/.333/.444 with 16 homers, 56 RBI and a 99/36 K/BB ratio over 408 plate appearances at the Triple-A level. He’ll add more quality depth to an organization that is brimming with it.
  • CWS 1st Baseman #10
White Sox signed INF Michael Chavis to a minor league contract.
Chavis opted out of his minor league contract with the Mariners over the weekend and it didn’t take him long to find new work. If trying to find a landing spot with an immediate path to the big leagues, the White Sox obviously make sense. The 28-year-old had been killing it at Triple-A Tacoma — slashing .290/.367/.485 with seven homers and 29 RBI in his 191 plate appearances.

Michael Chavis has elected free agency.
The 28-year-old infielder exercised the opt-out clause in his minor league contract with the Mariners and is now free to explore the open market. He was swinging a hot bat at Triple-A Tacoma, slashing .290/.367/.485 with seven homers and 29 RBI in 191 plate appearances.
  • SEA 2nd Baseman #46
Mariners optioned C Blake Hunt to Triple-A Tacoma; reassigned INF/OF Nick Solak, INF Michael Chavis and OF Isiah Gilliam to minor league camp.
Solak and Chavis are the most notable cuts from Mariners camp as both have extensive big-league experience and figured to have a decent shot at making the season-opening roster with a strong spring performance.
  • SEA 2nd Baseman #6
Mariners signed INF Michael Chavis to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Chavis was underwhelming in 48 games for the Nationals in 2023, posting a .242/.281/.341 slash line with 2 home runs, one steal, and a 34.4 percent strikeout rate. He has played first base, second base, third base and left field in the last two years, so he could provide defensive versatility as organizational depth for Seattle.
  • WSH 2nd Baseman #6
Nationals sent 2B Michael Chavis outright to Triple-A Rochester.
Chavis will get a head start on free agency after refusing an outright minor league assignment following his removal from Washington’s 40-man roster. The 28-year-old former top prospect posted a lackluster .622 OPS with two homers and one steal in 96 plate appearances over 48 games this season for the Nationals. He’ll wind up competing for a bench role somewhere else next spring.
  • WSH 1st Baseman #22
Dominic Smith is not in Friday’s lineup against the Giants.
He’ll take a seat against left-hander Alex Wood. Michael Chavis will make the start at first base and bat seventh. Also of note, Stone Garrett will start in left field while Corey Dickerson is on the bench.
  • WSH 2nd Baseman #2
Luís Garcia is not in the Nationals’ starting lineup for Sunday’s showdown against the Phillies.
It appears to be a regular off day for the 23-year-old second baseman. While García has never been a patient hitter, he has shown growth this season. He has cut his strikeout rate nearly in half, going from 22 percent in 2022 to 12 percent this season. Michael Chavis will bat seventh and play second base in his absence.
