Making just his second appearance for the Astros, Nate Pearson pitched a hitless ninth against the Cubs for a save on Sunday.
With Bryan King resting, Pearson got the call over Bryan Abreu, who worked a scoreless eighth to set him up. Pearson walked Pete Crow-Armstrong to start the ninth, but he retired Nico Hoerner, Michael Busch and Alex Bregman afterwards. Pearson topped out at 100.4 mph today, but it’s kind of surprising the Astros have been so quick to trust him after he walked 11 in 8 2/3 innings during his minor league rehab assignment. Ability has never really been the question with Pearson, but we wouldn’t rush to pick him up at this point.

Astros activated RHP Nate Pearson from the 15-day injured list.
Pearson figures to operate in a versatile swingman-type role, typically handling long relief situations, after missing the first seven weeks of the season recovering from elbow surgery. The 29-year-old was one of the top pitching prospects in baseball earlier in his career with the Blue Jays, but never quite panned out as a traditional starter or reliever. He can be safely ignored for fantasy purposes at the moment.

Nate Pearson (elbow) allowed four runs over two innings on Wednesday in a minor league rehab start for Double-A Corpus Christi.
Pearson is working his way back from an offseason cleanup procedure on his right elbow and figures to need a handful of additional outings before he’s an option for Houston’s pitching staff. He figures to get a look as a starter and would make a ton of sense in a swingman-type role initially. The 29-year-old is several years removed from being one of the premier pitching prospects in baseball back when he was with the Blue Jays.

Astros placed RHP Nate Pearson on the 15-day injured list with a recovery from right elbow surgery.
Pearson will eventually get a look in the Astros’ bullpen, but he had a cleanup surgery on the elbow in the offseason and is still not fully recovered.

Nate Pearson experienced soreness in his right elbow following his left bullpen session, manager Joe Espada said.
Pearson underwent a cleanup surgery on the elbow in the offseason. He signed a major league deal with the Astros in October and he was supposed to get a look as a starter this spring, but he’s probably IL bound now.

Astros signed RHP Nate Pearson to a one-year, $1.35 million contract.
The deal is now official. Pearson heads to Houston where he’ll be given a shot as a traditional starter after spending the past three seasons working exclusively out of the bullpen between the Cubs and Blue Jays. The 29-year-old former top prospect represents a low-risk reclamation project for the Astros who are in desperate need of additional starting pitching depth heading into next season.

The Astros are signing free agent right-hander Nate Pearson to a one-year, $1.35 million contract, according to The Athletic’s Chandler Rome.
The deal is still pending a physical. The 29-year-old former top prospect was released by the Cubs in late September after struggling to a 9.20 ERA, 2.18 WHIP and a 7/10 K/BB ratio over 14 2/3 innings in 11 appearances out of the big league bullpen. Pearson is expected to work as a starter for the Astros, according to Rome. He represents an interesting relatively low-risk gamble for Houston.

    Cubs released RHP Nate Pearson.
Pearson’s time in Chicago is over after he posted a lackluster 5.05 ERA across 41 innings of work in 30 appearances over the last two seasons. The 29-year-old former top pitching prospect was never able to make it work after converting to a full-time relief role. However, it’s possible there’s still an organization out there willing to bring him in this offseason as a reclamation project.

Cubs designated RHP Nate Pearson for assignment.
The Cubs needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster on Saturday and unfortunately Pearson was the odd man out this time around. The 29-year-old hurler sported a miserable 9.20 ERA, 2.18 WHIP and a 7/10 K/BB ratio over 14 2/3 innings with the Cubs. It’s possible another club could gamble on the talent and take a flier on him on waivers.

Cubs optioned RHP Nate Pearson to Triple-A Iowa.
No word yet on a corresponding move from the Cubs, expect that to be announced sometime on Tuesday. It could be the return of Porter Hodge to the Cubs’ bullpen or it could be something entirely unrelated. Stay tuned.
