In a swap of a Triple-A pitcher for cash considerations the A’s have acquired left-hander Brad Mills from the Brewers.
Mills is 29 years old and far from a prospect, posting an ugly 7.76 ERA in 53 innings as a big leaguer. He hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2012 and was never particularly promising, but Mills does have a 1.56 ERA and 77/18 K/BB ratio in 75 innings at Triple-A this season.
It’s possible that Oakland just needed some organizational starting pitching depth, but it’s also possible they think Mills has made a few adjustments and could help them later this season as a low-cost pickup.
