I’ve spent a lot of time over the past couple of years trying to parse Roger Clemens’ actions for signs of a strategy. As Joe Posnanski points out, however, this may be kind of pointless.
That Roger Clemens could throw a bat directly into the path of Mike Piazza on national television, during a World Series game, for tens of millions of people to see, and, instantly and vehemently believe that he could convince the umpire and everyone else that he didn’t mean it, might give us just a small peek into the inner workings of the man.
A wise man once said “it’s not a lie if you believe it’.” I think Clemens has been a pretty good example of that over the years.
