Adam Rubin of ESPN New York spoke to a Mets source who said right-hander Bobby Parnell is expected to begin the season on the disabled list, which makes sense given that he underwent Tommy John elbow surgery in early April last year.
That same source indicated that the team expects Parnell to come off the DL within 2-3 weeks, but that seems fairly optimistic given the typical 12-month recovery timetable and the usual need to get back into game shape before returning.
Either way, by keeping Parnell for $3.7 million via arbitration the Mets clearly think he’ll be able to make an impact in 2015 after missing all but one game last season. Before blowing out his elbow Parnell posted a 2.79 ERA with 8.5 strikeouts per nine innings from 2010-2013.
