Jair Jurrjens missed the end of last season following surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee, which makes it doubly concerning that the Braves have placed him on the disabled list with a strain in the same knee.
To replace him in the rotation the Braves called up Mike Minor, who’ll start tomorrow against the Mets.
Jurrjens spent the beginning of this season on the DL with an oblique injury, but he’s been fantastic since returning in mid-April with a 12-4 record and 2.63 ERA in 20 starts. However, he’s struggled in three of his last four starts, allowing 16 runs in 23 innings as his ERA rose from 1.87 to 2.63.
Minor is certainly a capable short-term replacement, but losing Jurrjens for a significant length of time would be a big blow to the Braves’ chances of hanging on to the Wild Card lead down the stretch.
