Update (10:20 PM EST): Collins apologized, per MLive.com’s Chris Iott. He said, “I’m absolutely embarrassed it happened and I’m very sorry to everybody in Detroit.” Also per Iott, manager Brad Ausmus said, “It’s clearly something that can’t happen.”

Tigers center fielder Tyler Collins lost a Marcus Semien fly ball in the lights. Left fielder Justin Upton made things worse, booting the ball and allowing Semien to advance from second base to third base.

Fans at Comerica Park booed and Collins responded by flipping them off, which you can see in this video:

Collins was likely frustrated as he also struck out to end the Tigers’ rally in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Tigers had already scored four runs to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

Collins is the first Tiger to make an indecent gesture at Tigers fans since Joe Nathan in August 2014. Nathan later apologized.

Then-Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon grabbed his crotch in front of the crowd at Citizens Bank Park in September 2014, an incident for which he was immediately ejected and later suspended seven games by Major League Baseball.
