CC Sabathia is headed back to the 10-day injured list with a case of right knee inflammation, the Yankees announced Sunday. Infielder/outfielder Tyler Wade has been recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding roster move.

It’s the third IL stint for the veteran left-hander this season, who was laid up in April during his recovery from heart surgery and battled another flare-up of chronic knee pain in late May. A return date has not been specified this time.

Sabathia, 39, is working through his 11th campaign in the Yankees’ organization this year. Prior to his most recent IL stint, he delivered a 5-6 record in 17 starts with a 4.78 ERA, 3.0 BB/9, and 8.2 SO/9 across 90 1/3 innings.

Without Sabathia, the Yankees will use his vacant roster spot to add middler infielder and outfielder Tyler Wade. Wade, 24, has yet to get comfortable at the major league level; despite an encouraging .309 average in Triple-A, he’s batting just .204/.316/.204 through his first 20 games in the big leagues so far.
