Oneil Cruz went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run against the Astros on Saturday.
His home run was off Jayden Murray, who posted a 4.64 ERA in 64 Triple-A innings last year, but it was a no-doubter at 106.4 mph off the bat. Cruz is now 7-for-13 in five spring training games, but has four strikeouts in 15 plate appearances, which is an improvement from what we saw from him last year. His contact rates and swinging strike rates were actually equal to or better last season than they were in 2024 when he hit .259, so it seems like a bounce-back to at least .230 feels likely for Cruz, which could make him a value at his current draft price.

Oneil Cruz went 2-for-2 with a walk and steal against the Braves on Wednesday.
Cruz hit leadoff again today. It’d be great for his fantasy value but also kind of funny if he was restored to the leadoff spot in a much stronger Pirates lineup this season after spending time last September hitting sixth and seventh behind the likes of Nick Gonzales and Tommy Pham.

Oneil Cruz hired a left-handed batting practice pitcher this offseason.
The comment was made by Matt Hague during the broadcast of Monday’s spring training game. Cruz hit just .102/.224/.176 in 125 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers last season, so it’s certainly an issue that Cruz needs to address. Cruz hit .224/.226/.400 against lefties in 2024, so even if Cruz were able to get back to that level, he could remain a full-time player and a major value in fantasy drafts.

Pirates agreed to terms with OF Oneil Cruz on a one-year, $3.3 million contract.
Cruz was eligible for arbitration for the first time after hitting a disappointing .200/.298/.378 last season. He hasn’t been mentioned in trade rumors, so all signs point to him remaining the Pirates’ center fielder. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s given another chance to play full-time after finishing last year as a platoon player. He’s likely to hit in the bottom half of the order, too, so his fantasy stock is well down from last year.

Oneil Cruz is on the bench for Sunday’s regular-season finale against Atlanta.
Cruz returned to Pittsburgh’s lineup for Saturday’s showdown at Truist Park following a two-game absence due to left ankle discomfort. The 26-year-old will close out the season just shy of a 20-40 campaign with a pedestrian 200/.298/.379 slash line with 62 runs scored, 20 homers, 61 RBI and 38 stolen bases in 134 games. There’s obviously some room for improvement in the plate skills department, but Cruz remains one of the more potent power/speed combo outfielders in the fantasy landscape.

Oneil Cruz (ankle) sat out his second straight contest on Friday against Atlanta.
Cruz has been on the bench for back-to-back contests since exiting the late stages of Wednesday’s showdown against the Reds with left ankle discomfort. There’s no reason for Pittsburgh to push him with two games left in the season, but it doesn’t appear he’s dealing with anything serious that would impact his offseason preparation for spring training.

Oneil Cruz was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Reds with left ankle discomfort.
Cruz appears to have avoided serious injury after slamming into the center-field wall while attempting to rob Noelvi Marte of an extra-base hit. He’ll likely be sent for some additional imaging to rule out any structural damage.

Oneil Cruz hit his 20th homer, a two-run shot off Brady Singer, in the Pirates’ 4-2 defeat of the Reds on Tuesday.
Cruz had been stuck on 19 homers since Aug. 30 as he finishes out the season as a platoon player. It will be interesting to see if he gets shopped this winter. The Pirates’ usage of him suggests they’re not particularly high on his future at this point, but we imagine there are plenty of teams out there that would like to take on his upside.

Oneil Cruz is leading off on Saturday against the Athletics.
Cruz has been moved up to the top of the lineup card ahead of Jared Triolo for the first time since coming off the injured list back in late August. The 26-year-old center fielder has been relegated to a platoon role of late with the Pirates choosing to give Alexander Canario and Jack Suwinski opportunities in the outfield.

Oneil Cruz is on the bench on Wednesday with the Cubs throwing left-hander Matthew Boyd.
Cruz has now entered a full-on platoon role with the Pirates choosing not to play him at all against left-handed pitchers. It’s hard to blame them since Cruz is hitting .173/.248/.315 against lefties in 399 career plate appearances. Still, this is a tough reality for fantasy managers heading into 2026 because Cruz will come into that season with batting average concerns and a potential cap of around 550 plate appearances. Alexander Canario is in the lineup in centerfield on Wednesday.
