Twins signed SS Orlando Arcia to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Arcia will compete for a spot on Minnesota’s season-opening roster during spring training after splitting last year between the Braves and Rockies, batting .202/.238/.291 with three homers across 214 plate appearances over 76 games. A combination of his declining offense and overabundance of quality options at the shortstop position have erased any semblance of fantasy relevance he possessed previously. However, he’s still only 31 years old and represents a worthwhile zero-risk gamble for the Twins as a backup infielder capable of handling virtually every position on the infield dirt.

Orlando Arcia went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI as the Rockies triumphed over the Cubs on Sunday afternoon at Coors Field.
Arcia singled during the Rockies’ two-run rally in the third inning but was erased on a fielder’s choice. He then smacked a two-out RBI single off of Matthew Boyd in the fourth that extended the Rockies’ advantage to 4-2. The 31-year-old infielder also led off the seventh inning with an infield single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brenton Doyle. Even with his three-hit attack, Arcia is slashing a meager .207/.243/.302 with three homers and 13 RBI in 189 plate appearances on the season.

Tyler Freeman is not in the Rockies’ starting lineup for Friday evening’s soiree against the Cubs.
Freeman has been performing in a super utility role for the Rockies and has settled into the leadoff spot in their lineup. He’ll get a breather in this one though. Orlando Arcia will draw a start at second base and bat ninth for the Rockies against Cubs’ right-hander Cade Horton while Mickey Moniak slides up to the leadoff spot in the lineup.

Kyle Karros (back) is not in the lineup for Thursday’s series finale against the Dodgers.
Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer told reporters Karros is dealing with back tightness, which has kept him out for two straight contests. The 23-year-old rookie hit his first career homer earlier this week and is batting .270 (10-for-37) with five RBI in 12 games since arriving in the big leagues earlier this month. It’ll be Orlando Arica at the hot corner in his absence.

Rockies activated INF Orlando Arcia off the 10-day injured list.
Arcia missed the minimum 10 days while dealing with inflammation in his throwing elbow. The 30-year-old will likely be in the lineup more often than not now that he’s healthy enough to do so.
  • COL Shortstop #11
Rockies placed INF Orlando Arcia on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to August 6, with right elbow inflammation.
Arcia suffered the injury during Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays. The Rockies gave it a few days to see if he could improve enough to avoid a trip to the injured list but ultimately couldn’t wait any longer. Aaron Schunk was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday to add infield depth for the Rockies.
  • COL Shortstop #11
Orlando Arcia (hand) was held out of the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Blue Jays.
Arcia suffered a left elbow injury during Tuesday’s slugfest at Coors Field and is presumably day-to-day heading into Friday’s series opener agains the Diamondbacks since he hasn’t been sent to the injured list.
  • COL Shortstop #11
Orlando Arcia was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays with a left elbow injury.
Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer didn’t offer any further information during his postgame availability. Arcia suffered the injury on a fifth-inning single. There should be an update on his status heading into Wednesday’s contest.
  • COL Shortstop #11
Orlando Arcia left Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays with an apparent injury.
Arcia appeared to suffer some sort of left hand injury on a fifth-inning single where he was immediately replaced by Kyle Farmer. There should be an update on his status shortly.
  • COL Shortstop #14
Ezequiel Tovar is on the bench for Sunday’s series finale against the Twins.
Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer told reporters they’re trying to be cautious with Tovar coming off a left oblique strain, so he’ll continue to get routine off days moving forward. It’ll be veteran Orlando Arcia taking over at shortstop on Sunday afternoon in his absence.
