Paolo Espino will retire after the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
Espino, 39, is currently pitching for Team Panama. The right-hander made just three appearances in 2025, and will end his career with a 5.12 ERA and 5-15 record over 97 appearances with the Brewers, Rangers, Nationals and Blue Jays.

Blue Jays sent RHP Paolo Espino outright to Triple-A Buffalo.
Espino passed through waivers after being jettisoned from Toronto’s 40-man roster earlier this week. The 37-year-old journeyman righty made three appearances (one start) earlier this season for the Blue Jays.

Blue Jays designated RHP Paolo Espino for assignment.
Espino was removed from Toronto’s 40-man roster in a procedural move to open up a spot for September call ups. The 37-year-old journeyman righty made three appearances (one start) earlier this season for the Blue Jays.

Blue Jays optioned RHP Paolo Espino to Triple-A Buffalo.
Espino heads back to the minors after being lit up for four runs over four innings on Wednesday in a spot start against the Orioles. The soft-tossing 37-year-old journeyman righty might get another couple spot starts over the final few months, but he’s obviously not a recommended fantasy option.

Paolo Espino allowed four runs over four innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Orioles.
Espino drew the starting assignment for Wednesday’s matinee at Camden Yards after Toronto pivoted to a full-scale teardown at the trade deadline. It was his first outing back in the majors since April 12. The soft-tossing 37-year-old journeyman gave up five hits, including a second-inning solo shot to Orioles outfielder Colton Cowser. He struck out one and handed out three free passes. He’ll presumably take the ball next Wednesday in a rematch against the Orioles back in Canada.

Blue Jays recalled RHP Paolo Espino from Triple-A Buffalo.
The 37-year-old Espino will get a start against the Orioles today and then probably head back to the minors. He had a 5.09 ERA in 12 starts for Buffalo.

Blue Jays optioned RHP Paolo Espino to Triple-A Buffalo.
Espino has been jettisoned to the minors to make room for Yariel Rodriguez on Toronto’s active roster. The 37-year-old journeyman struggled in a pair of relief appearances for the Blue Jays after being called up earlier this month.

Blue Jays selected the contract of RHP Paolo Espino from Triple-A Buffalo.
The 37-year-old will be active for Friday’s game against the Yankees. Espino posted a 2.65 ERA with an impressive 24/2 K/BB ratio across 17 innings of work during spring training.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters Ricky Tiedemann, Yariel Rodriguez, Wes Parson, Mitch White and Paolo Espino are options for the season-opening roster if Kevin Gausman (shoulder) isn’t ready.
Gausman’s health coming out of Monday’s scheduled start, which will either be a Grapefruit League or minor league outing, will determine whether he’ll be on the Opening Day roster. The 33-year-old veteran righty is expected to throw roughly 60-65 pitches in his next outing as he continues to build up his workload and stamina. Of that group, Tiedemann would be the most interesting as a brief stopgap, but it’ll likely only be a short stay in the majors with Gausman seemingly close to being ready to return already.

Blue Jays signed RHP Paolo Espino to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Espino was released by the Nationals back in early August after making just three relief appearances this past season in the majors. The 36-year-old journeyman righty has made 94 appearances (41 starts) in the big leagues dating back to 2017. He’ll function as emergency pitching depth for the Blue Jays heading into 2024.
