Pat Murphy won the National League Manager of the Year Award.
Murphy received 27 of 30 first-place votes, with Terry Francona and Rob Thomson collecting the remaining three to finish second and third, respectively. The Brewers’ skipper earns the honor for the second straight year after guiding Milwaukee to an impressive 97-win campaign. He’s gone 190-134 (.586) during his two seasons at the helm. He’s just the third manager to take home the honor in back-to-back seasons since 1983, joining Bobby Cox and Kevin Cash.
  • Terry Francona, Pat Murphy and Rob Thomson were named finalists for the National League Manager of the Year Award.
It’s shaping up to be one of the tighter races in recent memory, with Francona appearing to hold a slight edge after guiding Cincinnati back to the postseason for just the second time since 2013. Murphy will look to capture the honor for the second straight season after leading the Brewers to a 97-win campaign. Thomson guided the Phillies to 96 wins and an NL East crown in his fourth season at the helm, yet has never finished higher than fifth in voting despite consistent success. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, November 11.

Pat Murphy won the National League Manager of the Year Award.
Murphy, who helped spearhead a dramatic second-half turnaround to lead Milwaukee back to the postseason in his managerial debut, takes home the honors after receiving 27 of 30 first-place votes in balloting. Padres skipper Mike Shildt came in second and Mets rookie manager Carlos Mendoza finished third in balloting.
  • MIL Bench Coach #8
Brewers hired Rickie Weeks as associate manager.
Weeks joins Milwaukee manager’s Pat Murphy’s coaching staff for the 2024 season. He spent 14 years in the majors, including an 11-year sting with the Brewers from 2003 to 2014. It’s the 41-year-old former big leaguers first coaching gig since retiring back in 2017.

Brewers hired Pat Murphy as their next manager.
Milwaukee opted to elevate former manager Craig Counsell’s bench coach for the last six seasons, Murphy, to fill their managerial vacancy shortly after his departure. The soon-to-be 65-year-old skipper served as San Diego’s interim manager during the late stages of the 2015 campaign, but this will be his first official managerial tenure. It certainly adds some additional fuel to the fire next spring when the Brewers and Cubs square off on May 3 for the first time in the regular season.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that Pat Murphy will be named as the next manager of the Brewers.
Murphy previously served as the bench coach for the Brewers under Craig Counsell from 2016-2023. No word yet on the contractual details. He’ll now have to battle his good pal in the National League Central after Counsell became the Cubs’ new leading man. With all of the managerial vacancies around the league being filled quickly now, Murphy is likely to try to piece his coaching staff together quite quickly.
  • MIL Bench Coach
Brewers general manager Matt Arnold said Wednesday that bench coach Pat Murphy is in “very real consideration” for the club’s managerial vacancy.
Arnold added that if Murphy doesn’t get the job, the next manager will have the opportunity to pick his own bench coach, which means his time in Milwaukee could potentially end, if he doesn’t get the nod to replace Craig Counsell. The 64-year-old served as an interim manager for the Padres back in 2015 and has been with the Brewers as a bench coach since 2017.

Padres hired Pat Murphy as interim manager.
The Padres fired Bud Black on Monday and Murphy will manage the team for the remainder of the season. Murphy was the manager of the Padres’ Triple-A affiliate and has previously managed at Notre Dame and Arizona State University. It said a lot that the Padres weren’t willing to let him go when Craig Counsell wanted to add him to his coaching staff with the Brewers last month. He has a chance to stick for the long-term, especially if the Padres deliver on expectations the rest of the way.

The Padres announced Sunday that interim manager Pat Murphy will not be retained as manager.
The search for his replacement will begin immediately. Murphy took over after Bud Black was canned in June, going 42-54 in his time as manager. It’s unclear if he’ll remain with the organization in a different capacity or if he’ll be forced to look elsewhere. Early reports have mentioned Phil Nevin as a possibility for the position.

Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Padres will interview Angels assistant general manager Scott Servais for their vacant manager job.
However, Lin says that Servais is “a longshot for the job” and is expected to join former boss Jerry Dipoto in Seattle. Servais, 48, does not have any experience as a manager or a coach. The Padres have already interviewed Arizona third base coach Andy Green.
