Cardinals C prospect Rainiel Rodríguez homered for Double-A Springfield on Thursday.

Rodriguez became the sixth player to hit 15 or more home runs at Double-A as a teenager Thursday night, joining a list of: Giancarlo Stanton, Fernando Tatis Jr., Jackson Chourio, Samuel Basallo and Leo De Vries. Pretty decent company. The Cardinals catching prospect is now hitting .407/.446/.746 in August and looks like a stellar catching prospect for dynasty leaguers.

Cardinals C prospect Rainiel Rodríguez went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI for Double-A Springfield on Wednesday.

Rodríguez is only 19 years old but is hitting .273/.362/.455 in 53 games since being promoted to Double-A with nine home runs and six steals. He is arguably the top catching prospect in baseball and one of the better prospect stashes in keeper fantasy leagues. He likely won’t make his MLB debut in 2026, but he could be a regular for the Cardinals by the middle of the 2027 season.

The Cardinals could be open to moving either Iván Herrera or Pedro Páges at the trade deadline, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

As dynasty managers are aware, St. Louis has one of the most exciting offensive catching prospects in the game looming in the upper minors with Rainiel Rodriguez. That could make either Herrera or Páges viable trade options ahead of next week’s deadline. It doesn’t sound like anything is imminent, but there’s an opportunity for the Cardinals to move one of their veteran backstops with so many contending clubs searching for catching help.

Cardinals promoted C/1B prospect Rainiel Rodríguez to Double-A Springfield.

Rodríguez is the 27th-ranked prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline, and the top catching prospect in baseball. The 19-year-old hit .311/.430/.519 in 28 games at High-A with four home runs, 21 RBI, and four steals. Rodríguez still has some work to do when it comes to framing and handling a pitching staff, but he has had success controlling the running game in the minors, so there is a chance that he can stick behind the plate.
