Randy Vásquez delivered another strong Cactus League start on Friday, limiting the Rockies to just two walks over 2 2/3 innings of shutout baseball.
Four of the eight outs that Vásquez recorded came via the strikeout and he did not allow a hit in the ballgame. The 27-year-old right-hander generated six swings and misses on 37 offerings in the game, posting a strong CSW of 35 percent. What’s noteworthy is that once again his fastball exhibited increased velocity, averaging 95.6 mph after sitting just 93.5 mph during the 2025 campaign. If that added velocity sticks, Vásquez could wind up being an interesting late round option for fantasy purposes.

Randy Vásquez shut out the Dodgers for two innings in his spring debut Sunday.
Vásquez is apparently taking the threats to his rotation spot seriously, as he showed up with some serious juice today; his fastball averaged 96.6 mph, up from 93.5 mph last season. Even his changeup touched 90 mph. Vásquez was effective for the Padres last season in spite of a 13.7 percent strikeout rate. If his stuff is going to be this much better now than it was last year, not only is his rotation spot safe, but he might be interesting in fantasy leagues for the first time.

Padres signed RHP Germán Márquez to a one-year, $1.75 million contract with a mutual option for 2027.
We’re not overly optimistic about Márquez’s chances of resembling an average MLB starter at this point, but the price is certainly right. He figures to have a good chance of overtaking Randy Vásquez or JP Sears for a spot in San Diego’s rotation, especially if Griffin Canning needs some IL time at the start of the year. Márquez went 3-16 with a 6.70 ERA for the Rockies last season in his first full year back from Tommy John. His velocity was down only about one mph from where he peaked at six years ago, but his secondary pitches just weren’t what they used to be.

Randy Vásquez tossed seven scoreless innings with three strikeouts in a win over the Brewers on Tuesday.
Vásquez was at his best for his last regular season start, shutting out the Brewers over seven innings. He scattered just one hit and two walks while striking out three batters. The 26-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 3.73 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and a 77/52 K/BB ratio. He’ll make his next appearance for the Padres in the playoffs.

Randy Vásquez lasted just 2 1/3 innings and was charged with four runs Thursday in a loss to the Mets.
Vásquez surrendered a solo homer to Pete Alonso in the first, but he retired six of eight batters through two innings. Nevertheless, with lefty Brandon Nimmo up, Vásquez was pulled after two singles, a groundout and a walk to start the third, only to watch Wandy Peralta immediately give up a three-run homer. Vásquez dropped to 5-7 with a 3.97 ERA. He’ll probably face the Brewers on Tuesday.

Randy Vásquez struck out nine over six innings in the Padres’ 2-0 shutout of the Rockies on Thursday.
Vásquez had never struck out more than five batters in 23 starts this season before fanning nine against a hapless Rockies lineup tonight. He allowed just four hits and walked none. He’ll face a legitimate offense next week against the Mets, so he’s not recommended in mixed leagues.

Randy Vásquez pitched well in Saturday night’s victory over the Rockies, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits over his six frames.
The 26-year-old right-hander struck out three batters on the night and didn’t allow a base on balls. The Rockies scratched out a pair of runs against him in the second inning, then added another as Hunter Goodman swatted a solo homer in the sixth inning. Vásquez got seven whiffs on 77 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 27 percent. He’ll carry a 3.91 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a 62/49 K/BB ratio (117 1/3 innings) into a rematch against the Rockies at home on Tuesday.

Padres recalled RHP Randy Vásquez from Triple-A El Paso.
Vásquez draws the starting assignment for Saturday’s contest against the Rockies at Coors Field. He’s obviously not a recommended fantasy option. The 26-year-old righty holds a respectable 3.96 ERA and 59/49 K/BB ratio across 111 1/3 innings in 23 appearances (22 starts) this season at the highest level. He lacks the strikeouts upside to be interesting for fantasy purposes.

Randy Vasquez will be recalled from Triple-A El Paso to start on Saturday against the Rockies in Colorado.
The 26-year-old hurler has already made 23 appearances (22 starts) for the Padres this season, registering a 3.96 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a 59/49 K/BB ratio over 111 1/3 innings. He’s never a strongly recommended option for fantasy purposes but starting him against the Rockies at Coors Field feels like playing with fire. Stay away.

Kyle Hart will pitch Sunday against the Twins.
It’s not known if Hart will make a traditional start or if he’ll be used behind an opener, but he will pitch. He’ll also need to be added to the active roster to do so, and the likely corresponding move will be Randy Vasquez being placed on the paternity list as his wife is giving birth Saturday.
