Phillies signed INF Robbie Glendinning to a minor league contract.

Glendinning was released by the Orioles earlier this week, just a few months after being acquired from the Royals in a trade, and didn’t take very long to find a new home in Philadelphia. The 27-year-old middle infielder has yet to reach the majors and has posted a .245/.351/.424 triple-slash line with eight homers across 228 plate appearances this season between Double-A and Triple-A.

Glendinning will provide the Orioles with some extra infield depth at Triple-A Norfolk. The 27-year-old middle infielder, who played for Australia in the World Baseball Classic earlier this year, is batting .242/.373/.363 with two homers across 110 plate appearances this season for Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Robbie Glendinning hit a three-run homer as Australia topped Korea 8-7 8-7 in their WBC opener.

It was a very surprising result to the start of Pool B play. Australia also got homers from Tim Kennelly and Robbie Perkins, both of whom used to play in the minors in the U.S. Glendinning, 27, hit .252/.373/.439 for the Royals’ Double-A club last year.

Royals signed INF Robbie Glendinning to a minor league contract.

Glendinning spent the last two seasons playing for the Perth Heat of the Australian Baseball League. He also underwent Tommy John elbow reconstructive surgery last year, but is fully healthy now. The 26-year-old infielder was a 21st-round selection of the Pirates back in 2017 and spent three years in their minor-league system, finishing up at Double-A Altoona in 2019. He’ll augment the Royals’ organizational infield depth this upcoming season.
