Rangers released outfielder Rontrez Johnson from Triple-A Oklahoma.
Johnson has had a strange year. He signed a minor league contract with the Rangers in November, was grabbed by the A’s in the Rule 5 draft and then claimed off waivers by the Royals in March. He spent the first three weeks of the season in the majors, but then the Royals returned him to the Rangers and he was sent back to the minors. He’s struggled ever since and the Rangers have decided to go younger in Triple-A. Johnson still could be a big help to another Triple-A club. He won’t see any additional time in the majors this year.
