Diamondbacks optioned RHP Sam Demel to Triple-A Reno.
Demel ended up spending just one day with the big club, allowing one run on two hits and a walk in one inning of work Tuesday against the Marlins. He’ll likely return when rosters expand in September.

Astros claimed RHP Sam Demel off waivers from the Diamondbacks.
Demel spent most of 2012 at Triple-A, putting up a 4.07 ERA while striking out 75 over 66 1/3 innings. He should be able to land a middle relief job in the Astros’ pen.

Yankees claimed RHP Sam Demel off waivers from the Astros.
Demel made one appearance with the Diamondbacks last season, but spent the majority of the season at Triple-A, posting a 4.07 ERA and 75/22 K/BB ratio over 66 1/3 innings. The 27-year-old right-hander could turn into a decent bullpen piece.

Yankees sent RHP Sam Demel outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Demel was just claimed off waivers from the Astros earlier this week and now the Yankees will stash him in the minors. The 27-year-old made one appearance with the Diamondbacks last season and posted a 4.07 ERA and 75/22 K/BB ratio over 66 1/3 innings in Triple-A.

Dodgers signed RHP Sam Demel to a minor league contract.
No word on whether he’ll also receive an invite to spring training. Demel, formerly of the Diamondbacks, posted a 1.72 ERA and 65/23 K/BB ratio over 52 1/3 innings with the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate this past season. The 28-year-old will likely function as minor league bullpen depth.

Sam Demel (shoulder) threw a bullpen session at “about 75 percent” Tuesday.
It was his first since being shut down earlier this month after he still had soreness following his first bullpen session. “It went really well,” Demel said of the bullpen. “Kind of went at low intensity, about 75 percent but I feel good.” He’ll have another bullpen session Friday. “We’ll see how it goes the next time,” Demel said. “We’ll crank up the intensity a little bit and go from there.”

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Juan Gutierrez (shoulder) and Sam Demel (shoulder) are still at least a couple weeks away from a return.
Demel is eligible to return on June 9, and Gutierrez is eligible on Jun 10, but Gibson thinks they’ll each need at least an additional week on the DL. We should see them around the middle of the month.

He was sent out Monday as the D-Backs made room for new arrivals Jason Marquis and Brad Ziegler. Demel, 25, has a 3.60 ERA and 15/11 K/BB ratio over 25 innings this season. He should be back eventually.
