Shane Smith struggled during his final Cactus League tuneup on Friday, surrendering four runs on two hits over 3 1/3 innings in a loss to the Angels.
Smith also issued three free passes on the afternoon while punching out five opposing hitters. All of the damage done against him came in the opening inning as Smith hit the first two batters he faced and then walked Nolan Schanuel to load the bases. Josh Lowe then delivered a one-out single and two runs scored against the bullpen after Smith reached his pitch count and exited. He then returned and worked three scoreless innings to end his day. Let’s hope that he has better command his next time out when he takes on the Brewers on Thursday for his Opening Day assignment.

Shane Smith will start on Opening Day, according to White Sox manager Will Venable.
Smith’s selection makes it five consecutive years with a different Opening Day starter for the White Sox as they continue their perpetual rebuilding process. The 25-year-old righty was excellent as a rookie last year, posting a strong 3.81 ERA — 3.98 xERA — and 145/58 K/BB ratio across 146 1/3 innings over 29 starts. He’s a decent back-end rotation filler for fantasy purposes, even if Chicago’s supporting cast is unlikely to supply a ton of wins.

Shane Smith allowed a run over three innings in his spring start versus the Guardians on Saturday.
Smith, 25, allowed two hits, one walk and struck out a pair. The 25-year-old was one of the better rookie starters in 2025 with a 3.81 ERA and 145/58 K/BB ratio over his 146 1/3 innings, and he’s one of the very few White Sox who offer any kind of fantasy upside in 2026.

Shane Smith delivered a dominant performance in Sunday’s victory over the Nationals, striking out eight batters over six innings of shutout baseball.
Smith carried a perfect game into the sixth inning where Brady House spoiled the fun with a one-out single. That would be the only batter that would reach base against him. The 25-year-old right-hander generated 11 swings and misses on 73 pitches on the day — five of those on his sinker — while posting a CSW of 26 percent. He finishes a terrific rookie campaign with a 7-8 record, 3.81 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and a 145/58 K/BB ratio across 146 1/3 innings in 29 starts.

Shane Smith was terrific in a tough-luck no-decision against the Yankees on Tuesday night, racking up eight strikeouts across five innings of one-run baseball.
The 25-year-old rookie right-hander allowed five hits on the evening while issuing four free passes. The lone tally against him came on an RBI double by Austin Wells in the second inning. Smith generated 10 swings and misses on 93 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 25 percent. He exited with a 2-1 lead and in line for a victory, but his bullpen couldn’t hang on in the ninth inning for him. He’ll carry a 3.98 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and a 137/58 K/BB ratio (140 1/3 innings) into Sunday’s season finale against the Nationals in Washington.

Shane Smith had a rough evening in Tuesday’s loss to the Orioles giving up six runs on nine hits in only 4 1/3 innings of work.
Smith racked up seven strikeouts on the night while allowing one base on balls. He kept the Orioles off the board through the first two innings in the ballgame until they struck for a pair in the top half of the third. The O’s then piled on with a two-run blast by Samuel Basallo in the fourth inning. Smith also allowed two runs before exiting in the fifth inning. The 25-year-old hurler got 11 whiffs on 88 pitches on the evening while posting a CSW of 34 percent. He now sits at 6-8 with a 4.06 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 129/54 K/BB ratio over 135 1/3 innings through 27 starts in his rookie campaign. He’ll try to bounce back when he squares off against the Yankees in New York on Tuesday.

Shane Smith blanked the Rays for 5 2/3 innings in a victory Thursday.
The Rays had four balls hit at least 100-mph off the bat against Smith, and they came with xBAs of .940, .930, .460 and .430., but remarkably, they produced five outs, as one even turned into a double-play ball. Smith moved to 3-0 with a 2.84 ERA and a 41/16 K/BB in 44 1/3 innings over eight starts since returning from an ankle injury last month. Smith should make his next start Tuesday against the Orioles.

Shane Smith notched his fifth victory of the season on Friday evening, limiting the Tigers to four runs on three hits over his five innings of work.
The 25-year-old hurler punched out six batters on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. Smith served up a two-run homer to Parker Meadows in the third inning then allowed a pair of runs on a strange wild pitch in the fourth where Smith collided with catcher Kyle Teel while trying to field the ricochet while two runs came around to score. Smith got 15 swings and misses on 91 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 30 percent. He’ll bring a 3.95 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and a 118/52 K/BB ratio (125 1/3 innings) into Thursday’s matchup against the Rays.

Shane Smith allowed two runs through 6 1/3 innings Saturday against the Yankees.
The runs came on solo homers from Aaron Judge and Austin Wells. Smith allowed just one other hit and struck out seven. The rookie was fading badly in late June and early July before going on the IL with a sprained ankle, but he’s rebounded very nicely in posing a 2.67 ERA in six starts this month. He’ll likely make his next start Thursday against the Twins.

Shane Smith pitched one-hit ball for seven innings as the White Sox shut out the Royals 7-0 on Monday.
Smith gave up a double to Mike Yastrzemski in the third, but that was the only hit in a night full of routine flyouts. It’s his first win since June 10, when he improved to 3-3 with a 2.37 ERA. He struggled for a month afterwards and then missed time with an ankle sprain, but he has a fine 2.63 ERA in five starts since returning. He’ll make his next start at home against the Yankees this weekend.
