Steven Matz is being moved to the bullpen, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.
Matz has been removed from Tampa Bay’s rotation after allowing 11 runs combined over 4 2/3 innings during his previous two starts. The 35-year-old got an opportunity to start with the Rays and delivered a bloated 5.48 ERA and 37/17 K/BB ratio across 46 innings over 10 starts. He was scheduled to take the ball for Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox. No word yet how the Rays will fill his rotation spot.

Steven Matz allowed five runs in 1 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Tigers on Tuesday.
Matz gave up six hits, walked none and struck out two. He fell to 4-3 on the season with the loss. This is two very poor outings in a row for Matz as he’s now allowed 11 runs over 4 2/3 innings in his last two starts. He got off to a bad start Tuesday when Gleyber Torres hit a home run in the first at-bat of the game. He’s allowed nine home runs in 46 innings (1.76 HR/9). Matz will take a 5.48 ERA into his start against Red Sox next week.

Steven Matz allowed seven hits and six runs with two walks and two strikeouts across three innings in a loss on Wednesday.
Matz had nothing in this one. The first six Orioles he faced all reached base and five of them came around to score in the first inning. Gunnar Henderson had the big blow with a two-run homer on a changeup that may as well have been on a tee. Past that, Matz didn’t have any type of command of that changeup or his sinker and turned in his worst start of the season. He’ll take a 4.67 ERA and 35:17 strikeout to walk ratio over 44 1/3 innings into his next scheduled start against the Tigers.

Steven Matz pitched four innings of one-run ball Wednesday against the Orioles in his return from the injured list.
Matz, who returned from elbow inflammation without a rehab assignment, left a 1-1 game after throwing 67 pitches. Jesse Scholtens followed and allowed two runs over four innings, resulting in a win for him after the Rays scored four times in the eighth. Matz should be ready to throw five innings next time out, and he’ll make for an intriguing mixed-league play with starts against the Orioles and Angels next week.

Rays activated LHP Steven Matz (elbow) from the 15-day injured list.
Matz has been out since May 5th with elbow inflammation, but he is back now and will start on Wednesday against the Orioles. The left-hander has a 3.86 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 28/13 K/BB ratio across 37 1/3 innings this season, but we would prefer not to use him right off the injured list.

Steven Matz (elbow) will be activated to start on Wednesday against the Orioles.
Matz gets the green light after making it through Monday’s bullpen session without any issues. The 34-year-old lefty has been on the shelf recovering from elbow inflammation since May 5. It’s a decent landing spot right out of the gate and Matz has been a viable streaming option in deeper mixed leagues with a 3.86 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 28/13 K/BB ratio across 37 1/3 innings this season.

Rays placed LHP Steven Matz on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation.
That’s not great news. Matz looked good on Sunday, allowing one run in six innings to lower his ERA to 3.86 and his WHIP to 1.10. Obviously, he did not respond well after the start, so we’ll have to wait and see how long he will be sidelined for. The Rays are in the process of stretching out Griffin Jax and Mason Englert (forearm) as starters, and Joe Boyle (elbow) is on the injured list, so they may have to turn to Joe Rock or Ian Seymour to take at least one start in Matz’s place.

Steven Matz allowed one run with one strikeout over six innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Sunday.
Matz gave up a run in the first inning on two hits. He then settled in nicely, going five more scoreless frames, scattering two more hits and walking two batters. Matz threw 60 of 89 pitches for strikes and generated six groundouts. The 34-year-old left-hander will take a 3.86 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and a 28/13 K/BB ratio across 37 1//3 innings into a start against the Red Sox in Boston on Friday.

Steven Matz was charged with two runs over seven innings on Monday in a win over the Guardians.
Matz failed to record a strikeout until the seventh inning and managed to avoid any serious damage besides a fifth-inning homer by light-hitting Guardians infielder Daniel Schneemann. He finished with a pair of strikeouts while only issuing one walk and only giving up four hits across seven frames. The well-traveled 34-year-old lefty has allowed two runs or fewer in four of six starts to kick off his Rays debut. He’ll bring a respectable 4.31 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 27/11 K/BB ratio across 31 1/3 innings into a home matchup against the Giants on Sunday to finish a two-start week.

Steven Matz was roughed up for four runs over three innings on Tuesday in a loss to the Rays.
Matz was burned by the long ball in this one, serving up round-trippers to Elly De La Cruz, Ke’Bryan Hayes and Dane Myers. He’s coughed up five homers already in just 24 1/3 innings. The 34-year-old lefty has struggled to work into deep into starts, pitching beyond the fifth inning just twice in five starts. He’ll carry a pedestrian 4.81 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 25/10 K/BB ratio into a road matchup against the Guardians on Monday.
