The positive news here is that X-rays came back negative for any fractures and Rumfield appears to have avoided serious injury after taking a pitch off his right hand during Monday’s series opener. The 26-year-old figures to get a couple extra days off to rest and recover this week. It’ll be Willi Castro taking over at first base on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.

It’s a massive relief for the rebuilding Rockies and fantasy managers after Rumfield was drilled on the right hand by a 97-mph fastball from Dodgers Starter Emmet Sheehan in the first inning of Monday’s series opener. The 26-year-old rookie figures to miss a couple games until the pain and swelling subside, but appears to have avoided serious injury. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day.

There should be an update on his status following the contest.

TJ Rumfield homered while going 3-for-4 in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
Rumfield cut the Diamondbacks’ lead in half with a solo homer in the eighth inning. The 26-year-old also scored a second run, and he’s been one of the few bright spots for the lowly — again — Rockies with a slash of .289/.359/.460. Solid numbers even before you consider how far off the radar Rumfield was to begin 2026.

TJ Rumfield went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored as the Rockies beat the Pirates 10-4 on Wednesday.
Rumfield’s homer was his sixth of the season and gave Colorado a 7-4 lead in the eighth. He’s yet to tear the cover off the ball this year but continues to hit fourth or fifth most days. The Rockies have one more game in Pittsburgh before returning to Coors for a six-game home stand.

TJ Rumfield went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk on Wednesday against the Mets.
This was a classic Coors game with 11 total runs being scored after the fifth inning. Rumfield got himself in on the action with a solo shot in the sixth inning that started a mini-comeback for the Rockies. While they never cut their deficit to fewer than four runs, Rumfield’s fourth multi-hit game in his last eight tries has helped him steady the ship after a recent cold spell.

TJ Rumfield went 3-for-5 and hit his fourth homer against the Braves on Sunday.
Rumfield is batting .268/.329/.425 as a platoon first baseman playing in Coors Field half of the time. That’s not so bad, but there’s still not much here to suggest he should be part of the Rockies’ long-term plans. For now, he’s a nice NL-only first baseman, but one who will probably lose his lineup spot at some point.
