White Sox acquired OF Tristan Peters from the Rays for a player to be named or cash consideration.
Peters was designated for assignment on Tuesday. The 25-year-old made his major league debut with the Rays last season, going 0-for-12 with seven strikeouts. He hit .266/.355/.429 with 15 homers and 11 steals in his second season in Triple-A. While his approach is sound, he doesn’t offer enough defense in center or offense in a corner to project as lasting major leaguer. The White Sox, though, will have outfield at-bats available, especially if they trade Luis Robert Jr.

Rays designated OF Tristan Peters for assignment.
Peters loses his spot on Tampa Bay’s 40-man roster with veteran lefty Steven Matz being officially added. The 25-year-old rookie went 0-for-12 with seven strikeouts in four games at the highest level this past season.

Rays optioned OF Tristan Peters to Triple-A Durham.
The move makes room for Bob Seymour on the roster. Peters was sent down on Monday, only to be recalled the next day with Taylor Walls going on the injured list. He’s gone 0-for-12 with seven strikeouts in four major league games.
  • TB 1st Baseman
The Rays are calling up Bob Seymour in advance of Friday’s game, according to the Tampa Bay Times’ Marc Topkin.
The 26-year-old Seymour has been one of the best sluggers in Triple-A this season, hitting .263/.327/.553 with 30 homers and a 114/38 K/BB in 443 plate appearances for Durham. The Rays will likely use him at DH and first base against right-handers until Jonathan Aranda gets back. They have been mixing and matching in the DH spot lately, with Chandler Simpson starting there Wednesday. Tristan Peters could head back to Triple-A. It’s unlikely that Seymour will offer mixed-league value, but AL-only leaguers in need of some power could try him.

Rays recalled OF Tristan Peters from Triple-A Durham.
Durham was just optioned to Triple-A Durham on Monday night, but it’s possible that he never actually made the trip, as the Rays were trying to give Taylor Walls (groin) an extra day to see if he could avoid a stint on the injured list. Now Peters will stick around to provide extra outfield depth.

Rays optioned OF Tristan Peters to Triple-A Durham.
It seems like all along the Rays preferred to bring up Everson Pereira from Triple-A Durham, but he needed to be down there for at least 10 days before they could bring him back, so Peters got to spend the weekend in the big leagues. The 25-year-old went hitless in nine at-bats with five strikeouts during his short time with the Rays.
  • TB Outfield
Rays selected the contract of OF Tristan Peters from Triple-A Durham.
Peters was a seventh-round selection by the Brewers from the 2021 draft class and came to the Rays from the Giants in November of 2022 in a trade for Brett Wisely. The 25-year-old outfielder was hitting a solid .282/.370/.453 with 11 homers, 58 RBI and 11 stolen bases over 424 plate appearances at Triple-A Durham.
  • TB Shortstop
The Rays optioned SS/3B Junior Caminero and INF/OF Greg Jones, INF Austin Shenton and RHP Yoniel Curet to Triple-A Durham; reassigned OFs Ruben Cardenas, Niko Hulsize, Kameron Misner, Tristan Peters, C Logan Driscoll, LHP Antonio Jimenez, RHP Enmanuel Mejia, INFs Tanner Murray and Carson Williams to minor league camp.
It’s now official that one of the top fantasy prospects in baseball will open the season in the minors. In nine spring games, the 20-year-old went 7-for-26 (.269) with one homer and four RBI. It was reported earlier in February that the team was unlikely to have Caminero on the Opening Day roster due to his inexperience at the professional level. We’ll see if the team decides to play him at shortstop or third base given the Amed Rosario signing this offseason, but expect the young prospect to be called up if there is an injury on that side of the infield. The other notable name here is Carson Williams, who has some diverging opinions from scouts and evaluations, but is generally viewed as one of the most promising middle infield prospects in the game entering this season.

Rays acquired OF Tristan Peters from the Giants for INF Brett Wisely.
Peters, 22, was originally a seventh round selection by the Brewers from the 2021 draft class. He split his 2022 campaign between High-A Wisconsin with the Brewers and Double-A Richmond with the Giants -- slashing .279/.363/.433 with eight homers, 68 RBI and 18 stolen bases over 124 games. He’ll add minor league outfield depth for the Rays.
