Tyler Freman went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in the Rockies’ 6-4 loss to the Reds on Thursday.
Freeman’s homer was his first of the year, an opposite-field blast off Andrew Abbott to kick off the scoring in the first. His playing time has been sporadic this season, but he almost always bats in the 1-4 spot when he draws a start.

Willi Castro (knee) is not in the Rockies’ starting lineup for Friday night’s matchup against the Mets in New York.
Castro was removed from Thursday’s game after two innings due to soreness in his right knee. It sounds like he has been playing through the injury for a while now, though it doesn’t appear that a trip to the injured list is imminent. Tyler Freeman will start in his place at second base on Friday night and will bat cleanup for the Rockies against Mets’ right-hander Freddy Peralta.

Tyler Freeman (illness) is back in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Padres.
Freeman returns to Colorado’s lineup at DH following what amounts to a two-game absence after making an early exit from the first inning of Monday’s game against the Dodgers due to illness.

Tyler Freeman (illness) is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Padres.
Freeman was removed from Monday’s game against the Dodgers due to illness, and the 26-year-old will get another day off in the series opener against San Diego. Jordan Beck and Mickey Moniak make up the corner outfielders for Tuesday’s game.

Tyler Freeman was removed from Monday’s game against the Dodgers with an illness.
Freeman played the top of the first inning before being lifted from the contest. He’ll get some time off the rest and recover but should return to Colorado’s lineup in a couple days.

Mickey Moniak is on the bench for Monday’s contest against the Dodgers.
Moniak takes a seat with lefty Justin Wrobleski toeing the rubber for Los Angeles during Monday’s series opener at Coors Field. Jordan Beck takes over in left field with Tyler Freeman in the opposite corner. The 27-year-old outfielder is up to six round-trippers through 16 games after belting a career-high 24 over 135 games in his Rockies debut last year. He’s unexpectedly morphed into a potent power hitter after arriving in the big leagues a half-decade ago with almost zero over-the-fence pop.

Tyler Freeman went 3-for-5 and knocked in a run Thursday against the Astros.
Freeman is hitting .300 in 10 games since coming off the injured list, though he’s still without an extra-base hit. In addition to his usual duties against lefties, he’s playing about half of the time versus righties. It isn’t enough to make him mixed-league relevant, but there is a scenario in which he becomes the Rockies’ primary leadoff man and proves useful in batting average and steals.
  • COL Left Fielder #3
Willi Castro (hand) was held out of the Rockies’ starting lineup for Thursday’s battle against the Astros.
Castro was lifted from Wednesday’s game after being drilled on the hand by a Spencer Arrighetti fastball. Fortunately, imaging revealed no structural damage and he’s considered day-to-day. Tyler Freeman will draw a start in right field and will bat second against Ryan Weiss and the Astros on Thursday evening in Houston.

X-rays came back negative after Willi Castro left Wednesday’s game due to a hand contusion.
Castro was hit by a Spencer Arrighetti pitch, but X-rays were negative. He’s considered day-to-day. Tyler Freeman replaced him tonight and will probably start Thursday if Castro can’t go.

Jordan Beck is once again absent from the Rockies’ starting lineup for Friday night’s tilt against the Padres in San Diego.
We aren’t quite sure what Beck did to Rockies’ new skipper Warren Schaefer, but he has found himself in the starting lineup in just seven of the team’s first 14 ballgames now. The fact that he’s hitting .080 (2-for-25) obviously doesn’t help, but it’s hard to get into a rhythm at the plate when you’re seeing sporadic at-bats. Tyler Freeman will start in right field and bat second for the Rockies against Padres’ right-hander Walker Buehler on Friday evening.
