Tyler Gilbert struck out the only batter he faced to secure the save against the Rays on Wednesday.
Most known for his unlikely no-hitter with the Diamondbacks in his first MLB start, Gilbert must’ve been a bit surprised himself to wind up with the save here. Grant Taylor got the first crack at the ninth inning, but left after one batter with a groin injury. Then, Wikelman González faced the minimum three batters before the left-handed Gilbert was called upon to face Brandon Lowe with the tying and go-ahead runs on base. He struck out Lowe, ended the threat, and became the sixth different White Sox reliever to save a game since the All-Star break.
