Marlins optioned OF Victor Mesa Jr. to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Mesa has struggled in his first exposure to the big leagues, hitting .188 (6-for-32) with one homer and six RBI across 16 games this season. He should get a chance to compete for a starting role next spring since he has little left to prove at the Triple-A level.
  • MIA Center Fielder #10
Marlins recalled OF Victor Mesa Jr. from Triple-A Jacksonville.
Mesa returns to the big leagues for the first time since late May as Dane Myers lands on the injured list with an oblique strain. The 23-year-old prospect received a quick cup of coffee with the Marlins a couple months ago, going 1-for-7 with an RBI over four games.

Marlins optioned OF Victor Mesa Jr. to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Mesa heads back to the minors after sipping a quick cup of coffee with the Marlins, going 1-for-7 with an RBI over four games. The 23-year-old prospect should get an extended look in the big leagues at some point soon, but there really isn’t a spot for him with regulars Kyle Stowers and Dane Myers healthy.
  • MIA Left Fielder #54
Marlins activated OF Dane Myers from the 10-day injured list.
We assume Myers will return as the primary center fielder, though he has some new competition there in the form of Victor Mesa Jr. Both should play plenty, though. Myers hit .337/.375/.482 in 29 games before going on the IL with an oblique strain, so he definitely deserves to be in the lineup as often as he can handle.

Marlins recalled OF Victor Mesa Jr. from Triple-A Jacksonville.
Mesa will be active for Monday’s contest against the Padres, but isn’t in the starting lineup. The 23-year-old prospect missed time at the outset of the year with a hamstring injury, but was hitting .300 with one homer in six games since returning to action at the Triple-A level. His fantasy appeal is strictly limited to NL-only formats at this juncture, but he’s certainly talented enough to make an impact, if he gets a real chance to play everyday.
  • MIA Center Fielder #3
Marlins placed OF Derek Hill on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist sprain.
Hill heads back to the injured list for the second time this season with a left wrist sprain. The 29-year-old center fielder missed nearly one month the previous time back in mid-April. It’ll be prospect Victor Mesa Jr. taking his spot on the roster with Kyle Stowers moving over to center field in his absence.

MLB.com’s Christina De Nicola reports Marlins OF prospect Victor Mesa Jr. has joined the club in San Diego on the taxi squad.
Mesa traveled with the Marlins to San Diego, according to multiple reports, but it’s unclear whether he’ll be activated for Monday’s series opener. The 23-year-old outfielder was hitting .300 with one homer in six games this season at the Triple-A level after returning earlier this month from a hamstring injury.

Marlins optioned OF Victor Mesa Jr. to Triple-A Jacksonville and reassigned LHP Justin King, RHP Woo-Suk Go, RHP Freddy Tarnok, C Ryan Ignoffo and OF Jakob Marsee to minor league camp.
Mesa Jr. has been dealing with a hamstring injury and stood little shot of making the Marlins out of spring training regardless.
  • MIA Center Fielder #64
Victor Mesa Jr. is dealing with right hamstring tightness.
Mesa is an extreme long shot to make Miami’s season-opening roster this spring, but he put up solid numbers last year at Triple-A Jacksonville and could get an opportunity at some point later this summer.
  • MIA Center Fielder #64
Marlins OF prospect Victor Mesa Jr. walloped a three-run homer on Tuesday for Triple-A Jacksonville.
Mesa continues to make a compelling case to get a shot with the Marlins, who have been one of the worst teams in the big leagues so far this season. The 22-year-old top prospect is batting .312 (24-for-77) with five homers through 19 games this season at the Triple-A level. There isn’t a ton of speed here, but he’ll chip in the occasional theft and could make an impact for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues, if he gets the call this summer.
