Victor Vodnik closed out the Angels in the ninth inning on Sunday afternoon, working a scoreless frame to preserve a two-run advantage.
Vodnik took over with a two-run lead to protect and immediately made things interesting by issuing a leadoff walk to Jo Adell. He then got Nolan Schanuel to bounce into a double play before allowing a two-out single to Logan O’Hoppe that once again brought the tying run to the dish. The 25-year-old hurler bore down though and struck out Christian Moore to end the ballgame. For the season, he holds a terrific 2.92 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and a 47/24 K/BB ratio over 49 1/3 innings while recording seven saves and four victories.

Victor Vodnik tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Angels on Friday.
Vodnik pitched around a single to close out the Angels in a one-run game in the ninth inning. The 25-year-old right-hander’s save was his ninth of the season and he lowered his ERA to 2.98 in the process. With a strong finish to the season, Vodnik could have the inside track on the Rockies’ closer job in 2026.

Victor Vodnik allowed a run, but still picked up a save against the Padres on Friday.
Vodnik gave up a run on a fielder’s choice in the ninth, and it came with the Rockies leading 4-1. It hurts Vodnik’s ERA, but didn’t make much of a difference in terms of picking up the save. He now has eight of those, and his ERA is still a healthy — especially considering his home park and the players behind him — 3.11.

Victor Vodnik picked up a save against the Padres on Friday with a scoreless inning.
Vodnik put the tying run at the plate after giving up a hit and a walk, but the 25-year-old was able to wiggle out of the jam and procure his seventh save. The right-hander now has a 3.05 ERA on the season, and certainly seems like the favorite to be the closer for the Rockies to open 2026.

Juan Mejia picked up his first major league save despite giving a run in the ninth Sunday against the D-backs.
The final play was nearly a catastrophe. Ketel Marte hit a soft popup between first and second that any of three players could have caught. Mejia wanted it most, though, and caught it while getting slammed into by first baseman Warming Bernabel. Fortunately, he held on to the ball and was fine afterwards. Mejia was closing today because Victor Vodnik had saves four of the previous five days. The Rockies have as many saves in the last week as they did over their first 45 games of the season.

Victor Vodnik worked a scoreless ninth to pick up a save against the Rockies on Friday.
Is Victor Vodnik becoming a solid closing option? Enquiring minds want to know. The answer to that is subjective, but he hasn’t blown a save since the All-Star break, and the only runs he’s allowed in August came in the 20-1 debacle against the Blue Jays. You can probably find a better closing option than Vodnik, but he’s better than nothing. How’s that for a recommendation?

Victor Vodnik threw a scoreless ninth inning to secure a save in a 6-5 win over the Cardinals on Wednesday.
A Hunter Goodman home run gave the Rockies a one-run lead in the top of the ninth inning, so Vodnik quickly warmed up and then didn’t allow a baserunner in the ninth inning. He did allow a shot to the wall in left center field by Thomas Saggese, but no damage was done. Vodnik now has four saves on the season, but may need some time off after also getting five outs in a save chance on Tuesday.

Victor Vodnik got the final five outs to pick up a save against the Cardinals on Tuesday.
Vodnik allowed just one hit and he was able to strike out three while working the final 1 2/3 innings. The 25-year-old has saved three games in 2025, and while the Rockies won’t provide a ton more chances, he’s pitched well enough suggest he should see most of those opportunities for the remainder of the year.

Rockies placed RHP Seth Halvorsen on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow strain.
There haven’t been a ton of save chances this season for the Rockies, but Halvorsen has been their primary closing option. The 25-year-old left Saturday’s relief appearance with an apparent elbow injury and figures to be facing an extended absence. No word on the severity yet, but there’s a strong possibility his season is over. We’re speculating that Victor Vodnik would be next in line for saves in Colorado since he does have some closing experience.

Rockies activated RHP Victor Vodnik from the paternity list.
Vodnik, who has a 3.00 ERA in 31 appearances, will step back into his setup role after missing the weekend series against the Orioles.
