Rays acquired RHP Yoendrys Gómez and RHP Steven Wilson from the White Sox for OF Everson Pereira and 2B Tanner Murray.
Gómez heads to Tampa Bay to operate in a versatile swingman role after compiling a pedestrian 4.84 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 47/16 K/BB ratio across 48 1/3 innings over 12 appearances (nine starts) for the rebuilding White Sox last year. The 26-year-old former Yankees pitching prospect in an intriguing gamble for the Rays who seem to have an incredible track record of maximizing the value of these types of arms.

Yoendrys Gomez allowed five runs on eight hits in six innings in a no-decision against the Nationals.
Gomez struck out five and walked none, but also allowed four home runs that accounted for all five of the runs against him. The 25-year-old flashed some intriguing potential in his big league stint, but he’ll end the regular season with a 5.17 ERA and 58/27 K/BB ratio in 62 2/3 innings. He’ll have to battle for a spot in the White Sox rotation next season.

Yoendrys Gomez pitched decently in a losing effort against the Padres on Saturday night, allowing three runs on six hits over his 5 1/3 innings.
The 25-year-old right-hander punched out four batters on the evening and didn’t allow a base on balls. He served up a solo homer to Jackson Merrill in the second inning then kept the Padres’ offense off the board until the sixth where Manny Machado smacked an RBI single to chase Gomez from the game. He then scored against the White Sox’ bullpen. Gomez got six whiffs on 74 pitches on the night, posting an underwhelming CSW of 24 percent. Now 3-3 on the season, he’ll bring a 4.92 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and a 53/27 K/BB ratio (56 2/3 innings) into his final start of the year on Friday against the Nationals in Washington.

Yoendrys Gómez allowed two runs through five innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Guardians.
Gómez averaged 94.8 mph with his fastball today, which is a new high for him as a starter. Even including his previous 12 relief appearances along with his six starts, he was 1.1 mph above his season average. Gómez probably wasn’t someone the White Sox were planning on carrying on their 40-man this winter, but a little uptick in stuff will give them something to think about. He has a 4.01 ERA and a 36/13 K/BB in 33 2/3 innings over seven starts.

Yoendrys Gómez struggled in a no-decision against the Rays on Tuesday evening, allowing four runs on five hits over his five frames.
The 25-year-old hurler punched out five batters on the night while allowing just one free pass. Most of the damage done against him came via the long ball, with Josh Lowe swatting a two-run homer during a three-run second inning and Richie Palacios adding a solo shot in the fourth. Gómez got 11 swings and misses on 90 pitches on the night, registering a strong CSW of 32 percent. He now holds a 5.05 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and a 45/26 K/BB ratio over 46 1/3 innings in 18 appearances (six starts) on the season. He’ll look to get back on track when he takes on the Guardians in Cleveland on Sunday.

Yoendrys Gómez scattered seven hits and allowed two runs – one earned – with one walk and five strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision against the Twins on Wednesday.
Gómez dealt with traffic on the bases in four of his five innings, but was able to wriggle out of nearly every jam he got himself into. Whenever he did get into trouble and was fortunate enough to be facing a right-handed batter, his sweeper was able to force an ugly whiff or weak contact and save the day. It was responsible for six of his 13 total swings-and-misses and was lethal. Lefties were a bit more of a grind for him though as he mixed six different pitches a handful of times each to fight his way through them. While not the prettiest, you can squint and see how it may work. He’s scheduled for a two-start week coming up against the Rays at home and then Guardians on the road.

Gómez gave up two hits, walked six and struck out six. The 25-year-old right-hander had his worst start in four tries for the White Sox so far this year. Gómez had a 2.45 ERA in three starts entering play Friday. He’s lined up to face the Twins on the road next week, but isn’t a recommended fantasy option at this point.

Yoendrys Gómez tossed 4 2/3 scoreless innings and got a no-decision in the White Sox’ 8-0 victory over the Twins on Sunday.
Gómez gave up two hits, walked three and struck out six. Unfortunately, he was pulled with two outs in the fifth inning so he didn’t qualify for the win despite the White Sox leading 7-0. Gómez is 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA and 16/5 K/BB ratio in 14 2/3 innings over three starts since being moved into the rotation. He could have some sneaky AL-Only league value. Gómez is lined up to face the Yankees at home next weekend.

Yoendrys Gómez allowed four runs — three earned — in five-plus innings Monday in a win over the Braves.
Gómez has won both of his starts since being added to the White Sox rotation, though tonight’s dub was more about an offensive outburst that granted him seven runs of support. Gómez allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out three before departing. He’ll likely face the Twins at home on Sunday.

Yoendrys Gómez pitched well in a victory over the Tigers on Tuesday evening, allowing just one run on one hit over five strong frames.
The 25-year-old rookie right-hander piled up seven strikeouts on the evening while issuing only one base on balls. The lone tally against him came on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Wenceel Perez in the fourth inning after the Tigers had put two runners in scoring position to open the inning. Gómez got 16 swings and misses on 89 pitches on the night — six of them on his fastball — while registering a CSW of 29 percent. After this terrific outing it seems likely that Gómez will get a chance to stick around and start against the Braves in Atlanta on Monday.
