Carson Wood won the second moto of the 250 Pro Sport class in the
Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Nationals in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, and put himself in a position to contend for the overall victory.
Wood had a strong launch off the gate as was second at the completion of Lap 1, which was considerably better than his eighth-place position at the start of Moto 1. Using that to his advantage, he moved around holeshot winner Cole Forbes on Lap 2 before leading the remainder of the event.
Forbes kept Wood in sight for three laps until he was pressured and passed by Moto 1 winner Ryder Malinoski on Lap 5. Wood gave up the final podium position one lap later when Jesson Turner passed him for third. Forbes continued to fade and wound up 11th.
The quest for podium was not over with Landon Gibson battling Turner hard in the final laps. Gibson posted his fastest lap of the session (1:54.202) with two laps remaining and secured third. Gibson wasn’t done; he pressured Malinoski on the final lap, but could not secure the runner-up position.
Tuner held onto fourth with Max Shane rounding out the top five.
The two moto winners, Malinoski and Wood, enter the third and final moto with two points separating them.
